Photobook, Scrapbook, or neither?

I decided that I wanted to make something special for my parents to thank them, not only for all that they've done for our wedding, but also for all they've done for me throughout my life.

I started a scrapbook of lots of pictures from the day I was born, up until now. I've never done any scrapbooking before so I'm not sure if i'm doing a good job or not.

I was telling my FMIL about the scrapbook and she thought that I meant that I was doing a photobook (on snapfish/shutterfly) and I told her no, that I was dong an "old fashioned" scrapbook! This got me thinking though, that I could maybe do the shutterfly/snapfish book since it might look better than the scrapbook I've been working on.

The issue I'm having with the photobook is that I wont be able to add anything to it after (rehearsal dinner pics, wedding pics.)

I'm wonderin if:

1. this is just a weird idea and I should stop what I'm doing and think of something else
2. I should stick with my scrapbook that I've already spent lots of time and $ on.
3. start a new photobook on one of the websites.

Personally I'm a fan of the scrapbook because then you can add in extra things like original ticket stubs, plane tickets, etc. without scanning them.  Also, since you've spent money and time on the scrapbook I'd vote to stick with that...

But I would definitely scan your original photos so that you have a copy forever - you can always turn them into a shutterfly album or slideshow at a later date.

If you want to do the shutterfly book and include your wedding pictures, just give them a thank-you card with an IOU for a photo album, and get it printed after the wedding.
  • I've done both and I definitely prefer scrapbooks for presents. Like PP said, more than photos can go into them, and it shows how much time you've spent on it. it's truly a labor of love. plus, you can keep adding to it which, with the photobooks as you've noted, once you're done, you're done unless you spend the money to add extra pages.

I love the photobooks because they're easy and I'm not a DIY'er.  Can't you wait until you get all your photos back to make the photobook?
  • If you already started the scrapbook, I'd stick with that.  Scanning photos can be a PITA.  And like you said you can give them somethng now and then add to it later, which you can't with the photobook.  So I vote scrapbook.
