Connecticut DJ/MC and uplighting packages

Hi,

I was quoted a little over $2000 for one DJ, one MC (2 person team) and uplighting for the entire room.  I just wanted to see if you guys think this is reasonable. It seems as though uplighting itself is around $800 itself. I am having my reception at the Riverview in Simsbury and CT Party Pros was charging that amount. I guess for a 2 person DJ/MC team, it runs about $1500 so I guess I am getting a good package? And this company seems to have a good reputation?

Anyone have any suggestions for a DJ and their prices for a younger crowd that likes to listen to is top 40s/pop - the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga stuff??

Thanks!

My dj rocked our reception and he was only $800 and he had an assistant with him who worked the music if he was working the room on the mic. He did lighting as well, but it wasn't full uplighting like what you're looking for. But I think you could do cheaper than $2k that sounds a bit high even with the uplighting.

I used Josh with Mrmusicman. He is a 2 man crew, with uplighting, also offers a picture slide show on a big screen during dinner. He was so amazing! Around $2k. People dance all night long! He really made the night for all of our guests.

I got a basic uplighting package and Dj and assistant for about $1100 - Entertainment Unlimited of New England. Might be worth a looksie.

I'm using UpBeat DJ which is also a 2 man team.  Right now I only had the DJ part booked for $1,100, but we talked to him about doing some uplighting - not crazy amounts but enough for the entire room and he was going to charge another 300-400 depending on how many actual lights we actually decide on using.  I think you just have to gauge how much you really like them. I'm pretty sure that you can probably get something cheaper than $2K, but if you are completely in love with them, then it might be worth the little bit of extra money.  I know we ran into the same predicament with our photographer and although they were a couple hundred over the others we were looking at, we absolutely LOVED them and decided it was worth it.  In the end, we ended up getting an upgrade on our album anyways so it was def worth it!

we 're signing up with Milestone DJ for $995 and that includes 5 hours, 2 DJ's and uplighting. You might want shop around a bit more. We were lucky we found this DJ cause our wedding is only 5 months away. Nothing like waiting for the last minute. (from my end).

    good luck

Music In Motion offers a flat uplighting fee of $500. You can book them with the dj package and the uplighting or just the uplighting if you have another dj.

I paid about 1500 for that. When I got married at The Riverview (July) they were installing uplighting boxes. I would check with them first. Hope that helps

I think the uplighting might be dependant on how big your venue is and I think that may change because of that.  Maybe start with a base rate for the DJ and then addon the uplighting later?

My DJ (DJ Melee as many have raved about on here) charges $100 an hour so for a 5-hour reception it's only $500.  So based on your rate it'll be $1500 for uplighting.  Maybe shop around more :)
