in June 2013 Weddings
Hi all. I am new to the forums, but have been planning my wedding for nearly FOUR YEARS...! So as for introductions, my name is Jill and have been with FI for almost 8 years. Time restraints had me putting the wedding off, but my FI and I have decided that June 2013 is it! 

Our date is set for June 9, 2013 in Michigan. However, we are planning it as a surprise 30th birthday party for me as my bday is on the 8th, but instead... i will come through the double doors in a wedding dress!!!! I am only 2 months into planning and cannot wait to talk to SOMEONE about all of these plans and thoughts going through my head. So hopefully you all will be willing to listen :)

    Congrats and welcome! I've never heard of doing a surprise wedding before. What made you want to do this? Sounds neat.

    A friend of mine has attended one of these, and he loved it!  He said he showed up to what was supposed to be a college graduation party out at a local park on the water, and then they announced that the guests were all to go have a seat, and that they would be witnessing a wedding ceremony.

    My friend says he liked that they weren't gift grabby (though, it was a grad party, so the bride got some gifts haha) and he felt comfortable in the clothes he was wearing because it was so informal.  He thought it was the coolest thing, made me wish I was there to see it!

    AND everyone will be talking about it forever :-)

    Congrats and kudos for having the balls to pull off something like that!  I don't think I could do it

    Welcome!  Our family friends did this -- they planned a housewarming party and people showed up to a wedding!  It was lovely and everyone had an amazing time :)

    What a wonderful welcome! Thank you so so much for making me feel welcome. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you all. Still adjusting to navigating this site. Its not easy to see the replies. I wish this site had a little mailbox symbol somewhere!

     

    Yes, it is a surprise wedding, as long as I can keep my mouth shut, haha. We wanted to do it this way because it helps cut down on all the family drama involvement, if you know what I mean.

     

    Also, we aren’t into all of the traditional stuff, although some of it will appear. We just want people to think they are coming to a PARTY! I am always open for suggestions or tips from those who have them or have attended a surprise wedding.

    Yes it definitely could be designed better.

    At the top of threads that you want notifications about, you can press the green button that says "e-mail replies" - then you will get an e-mail everytime someone responds :)

    There's nothing for private messages though, so remember to check your TK inbox every once and a while
