Snarky Brides

Ask a knottie anything

I'm bored. Let's try this. Ask any knottie anything. The more controversial or interesting, the better. The knottie has the right not to answer, but we also have the right to throw tampons at her.

Aprove - how did you get so interested in politics? What is it that makes you so passionate about it?

Vegas - does your FI feel weird about you posting here? I like having you around, but I've got to be honest and say that it would be strange if Matt was posting here. Mainly because I would be jealous of all of the internet bitches.

Nope, she doesn't get to log on much anyway, and I'm doing most of the planning stuff so she's glad I'm involved instead of her trying to figure out how to get it all done around her work schedule. :-)

That's awesome that you are so involved in the planning. So, do you truly enjoy it? Or are to planning to help her out? I kind of hated it.

The most bizarre interview I've ever done was probably as a tv intern in college.  I got assigned to a story about a rancher who recycles old tires by using them to build fences.  He'd stack them up like bricks.  Never had to be maintained.  Worked great.

Thing is, he had... well... a LOT of tires.  Like 350,000 of them.  So many that the state was trying to get him to get rid of them - could they catch fire, could mosquitos breed in standing water in the tires, when you die who will take care of this hoard of tires?

He was basically bankrupt because he was fighting them tooth and nail, since he saw what he was doing to be a good thing - tires just go in a landfill, otherwise, not get neatly stacked in rows.  His family had no insurance anymore, they had to sell some of their livestock, etc.  It was pretty sad.

But he loved the camera and he loved telling his story.  Very colorful individual.  He found out where I ended up getting a job after I graduated and he calls me once in a while to let me know how he's doing.

ETA - I have a story (non-reporter related) about throwing tampons.

It's funny you ask. Matt and I were very ready to have kids just before we got married. The plan was to wait one year, save money and then start trying. Well, my sister's baby kind of helped us get it out of our system and we don't know that we want more at this point.

Ben is so much fun to hang out with. He's like a little man and we just don't know that we want to go back to that baby stage. This all may change in a few years,  but for right now, we think we'll be a 3 member family band.

I like it because I get really pissed off if vendors you're paying dont do what they're supposed to or let you down in some way, and I know that if I didn't have any involvement that I'd be worrying about it all day on wedding day, so now that I've gotten into the research, selecting, conversations with them, etc. I have a much better comfort level and won't worry much at all.  FI on the other hand doesn't like haggling, negotiating or dealing with contracts, etc. so she just wanted to make sure all her requirements are met and not having to deal with the rest makes her happy.  We're going to do a day of coordinator too so less to worry about.

It's interesting that when you talk about planning, you relate it to the vendor management / negotiation piece as opposed to the frilly wedding-y stuff. It's not entirely surprising, just interesting.

Which did you like better? "Jedi" or "The Empire Strikes Back"? "Empire". Blasphemy. "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

This is kind of a hard one.  Maybe that my hair is completely grey.  I've been dying it since around the time I turned 19.  In the past two years, I've gone totally grey. My dad was grey by the time he was 27ish so I guess he passed that on to me.  Sometimes I like to let it go for an extra week, and freak my FI out.

    Posted by AllAboutTheBenjamin[/QUOTE]

Hmm, hard one. I don't really know. They come from all over the place. I can look at a rock and get an idea from a story. A lot of the time I think of an interesting title, or main character, and build a story around it. Other times I have an idea and just lit it sit for awhile until I decide whether or not it's worth it. My view is that if I don't remember it in a few months or even a year, then it wasn't worth writing about.

For my first book, I got the idea after reading another book (true story) about a little girl who was killed due to abuse. It started with the idea of "what if there were people willing to help, but as vigilantes?" and grew from there. My latest one started with the image of the main character.

Sometimes I wish I wasn't a writer. My head is a distored place and there are times I confuse reality with fiction. The ideas and storylines can get overwhelming, which is why I've had to adopt a philosphy of forgetting what isn't important enough to write about.
  • I loved Session 9. It was strange and kept me guessing.

Hahahahahha. Well, let's see here. Liquor- 1 pint of vodka, 1 pint of rum, 13 or 14 mixed drinks (I can't quite remember) and about 7 or 8 shots. The pints were at our house (college) and the rest we drank at the bar; all happened within 5 hours. Amazingly I didn't die or puke.

    Beer- A case (24), plus a 6-pack. I'm not proud.
