New Jersey

Need DJ recommendaations, please.

We have most of our big vendors booked or in line to book except the DJ. FI and I are both really into music so the DJ being great is very important to us. We need someone who's current, who knows some Spanish music (not a lot, but some), and who will NOT talk a lot. It drives us both crazy when Emcees talk all night at receptions. We just want them to make the important announcements to let the guests know what's going on at any given point in the night, we don't need commentary on the songs. I need someone who will work to what we want and has no issues with getting must play and do not play lists and someone who is very responsive. Also if they have slideshow set up capabilities that's a plus b/c FI is insisting on a slideshow.

Please give me some great DJs that we can look into. There are so many out there it's hard to tell who's any good. TIA!!

We used Premier Entertainment in E. Rutherford.  They were great!   We had a slideshow that they did for us.

We're using Colorblind Productions who are a husband/wife team. Emcees talking too much was one of our biggest concerns as it's a pet peeve of ours, plus we needed someone who knows Spanish music well and is also fluent.

We're also using Colorblind, although I will tell you straight up that they can be a bit annoying to get in contact with at times.  www.colorblindprd.com

Another knottie (I think viviannac) used Steve Guillen who speaks both English and Spanish and said he was great.  http://www.steveguillen.com/

I am using Diamond Productions in Cranford. They are also fluent in English and Spanish.

I'm also using Colorblind for my wedding. Peaches is right about the lack of communication on their part but I really needed a DJ that was knowledgeable in both Spanish and Portuguese music and they came highly recommended. Their prices are very reasonable, and they offer the a slide show option. I have gotten the best response by contacting Rob (the owner) on his cell phone. GL

I'd look into A Starry Night (who we used) and Aria Melody.  They're both DJs who specialize in speaking as little as possible.  I know A Starry Night has DJs who speak Spanish, and they know world music.

From friends' experiences, I wouldn't necessarily trust an emcee who is used to being chatty to keep it down.  Some just can't help themselves.

Hey, KCull (DJ recs--you know what I'd say if this were SB about our favorite place in NJ)!  We're using Elite Entertainment on a friend's recommendation (the two guys who are getting married in April).  They are not corny, have great prices, and you can really customize your package.

Why not just share your opinion here of whatever DJ you're referring to?  It may be helpful to other girls who are in search of a DJ who don't frequent the SB board... especially since it seems that you have a pretty strong opinion about whoever it is.

Peaches - Nates is making a little joke to me, not related to an actual wedding DJ.

Thanks for all the tips ladies! I'll look into these. Speaking Spanish isn't a concern as everyone in attendance speaks English, we just need a little Spanish music played as FI's family is from Argentina and they will get them up and dancing!

As KCull said, it was just a joke.

My recommendation for the DJ I'm using was my real recommendation and all the information is in my post.

We're using Viva Entertainment. They specialize in Spanish weddings. We booked him though we aren't Spanish because I loved his voice and he didn't seem corny or too "Jersey". He's really great to work with and has no problem giving you his opinion, which I like because he's been in the business and knows more than I do, but also knows when to let go. He seemed reasonably priced as well.

As peaches previously mentioned, we used Steve Guillen and he was great.  He is fully billingual and was able to keep his time on the mic to a minimum.  He is very knowledagble about current music (English and Spanish).
