Since I have virtually no other forms of entertainment available to me I have been reading a lot this month I've read some good stuff so I wanted to share and discuss.

Last weekend I read The Handmaid's tale by Margaret Atwood. I thought it was fascinating and I think everyone should read it. It's dystopian fiction but it hits eerily close to home at some points.

I also read Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. I thought it was going to be a breezy Gossip Girl type novel, but it was actually kind of heavy and much more literary than I expected. I really liked it, and found the main character to be relateable. The book is about a girl at boarding school but I thought a lot of it sounded familiar from my college years.

This weekend I read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I can't believe I haven't read this before. I love Savannah and I like true crime stuff so this was definitely up my alley. The author (John Berendt) has another book about Venice and I want to read it soon since I like Venice even more than Savannah.

What have y'all been reading lately? Anything good?

I am in the midst of The Eyre Affair by Jesper Fforde. It's awesome- hilarious, different reallity stuff. I'm a big fan.

I loved The Handmaid's Tale. FI has the movie version, I've never seen it before, but I think it's going to be something for this weekend.

Currently I'm reading The Favored Child, which is the second book in the Wideacre trilogy by P. Gregory. I loved the first book, I haven't gotten far enough into this one to decide if I like it or not.

I also just reread The Mosquito Coast, which is one of my favorite books. It's about a father who gets fed up with society and takes his family down to the jungles in Honduras to rebuild a civilization.

I'm reading "The Lost City of Z," which is about Henry Percy Fawcett's obsession with finding El Dorado. It's interesting.

My next book will be "Game of Thrones" and I just finished "Peony in Love." I didn't care for the story of Peony, but I loved learning about the ideas that shape the Chinese afterlife.

Have you read "The Monster of Florence?" True crime - I hear it's good. I feel like you've already read it, though. This seems like a familiar conversation...

I'm reading "5th Victim", I forget by who and I can't even remember what I've read so far, I probably won't be finishing it. I'll give it one more chance to hook me.

Before that I read "My Lost Daughter" by Nancy Rosenberg - it was alright, just took me forever to finish b/c it wasn't a book where I coudln't stand to put it down but it was worth finishing. Twists and turns I wasn't exactly expecting.

Henry VIII: The King and His Court by Alison Weir. It's very brass tacks, nonfiction about life in the Renaissance in England, but I'm a nerd so I find it fascinating.

Oh, and Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith. I finished that one recently, and I loved it. It's a crime story that takes place in Stalin's Russia (USSR?). It was a really interesting read.

If you want something seriously fluffy and non-serious, you should read the Wings trilogy. I loved it, Beachie loved it and it's just plain fun.

I read that! I loved it. The Catherine of Aragon story went on foooorever, but it was all so interesting! Alison Weir is allegedly one of the best historians for Henry VIII.

IMy nighttime book is a biography of Anne Morrow Lindbergh. It is actually really interesting. I'm looking forward to getting to the part where it discusses the kidnapping/murder of their son, only because while I know the fact, I dont know anything about the family's perspective and am interested in how that experience shaped the remainder of her life.

I have read Divergent and Insurgent and I know this is an unpop op but I am pretty "meh" on both of them.

Joy, I have read Monster of Florence. I really liked it.

Dumdum, let me know if the movie is any good. I saw on the book cover it was a movie, I didn't think I knew that before. That Mosquito Coast book sounds interesting. I'm going to add that to my list.

Holly, I just finished the Fifty Shades series and I agree, I actually liked the story aside from the sex stuff (although that was pretty interesting too ;-p ). You have to read it for what it is though, if you go in expecting to be blown away, then you'll probably be disappointed. But if you read it knowing the writing isn't that great and it's just a fun story, then it's enjoyable.

I'm currently reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King. I'm only about 12% into it, but I like it so far.

I am so boring with my books. I am reading Insurgent now, but it is my first "new" book I have read in a while. I always reread the ones I like.

I think I am going to start "The Stand" next and I also have "Becoming Sister Wives" by Kody Brown on my list. I sure do love those sister wives. I have The Vampire Diaries on my amazon list but I'm not sure I will read them.

I just recently finished The Hunger Games Trilogy - I wanted to at least read the first one before I saw the movie, and so glad I did.

I just finished up Phlebotomy school, so now that I have more free time, I want to read the following this summer:

A Handmaid's Tale
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
A Clockwork Orange
Slaughterhouse Five
Lord of the Flies (read it years ago, and have a hankering to read it again)
Brave New World

That Henry VIII book sounds interesting - I love to read anything about history, and I loved the movie, The Other Boleyn Girl, as well as the story behind that.

Well I was going to say that I just finished the Book Thief, but never mind.

Other books that have been recommended to me are Those Who Save Us and Still Missing.

I also liked The Thirteenth Tale.

Did you like The Book Thief MP? I think my problem is that I have read about 17 million books about WWII and the Holocaust so that one just didn't stick out to me. I like Those Who Save Us more. It focuses more on issues that are interesting to me.

I've been reading a YA series "The Bloody Jack" series. It's about a young orphan from London and her experiences as she roams the world after getting out of the orphan life. It takes place in the late 1700s, early 1800s. There have been a few "jump the shark" moments, but all in all it's been a good read.

There are currently 9 books and I'm about to start #6.

Rupert, I thoroughly enjoy WWII and Holocaust books (that sounds wrong), and this one had an interesting perspective and story. Although it wasn't nearly as compelling as others that I have read, such as Sarah's Key. I've also heard that some people were confused by the end and thinking that Max and the Book Thief (blanking on her name right now) got married.

Joy, I have so many of her books! She is one of my favorite authors.

I read Insurgent, but I didn't like it as much as Divergent. I should probably reread it to give it another shot. Sometimes I read things too fast when I'm excited to get into them, and I miss things.

DJ, I first started trying to read The Book Thief at the pool in Vegas. That was NOT the correct setting.

Aggie, I really liked The 13th Tale, but it took me a while to get into it. I tried to read it once before and just couldn't do it. But it was such a great read once I read it again.

I just finished The Orchid House, by Lucinda Riley. Kinda Downton Abbey-esque. Dialogue was cheesy in some parts, but it was decent.

The last good book I read was The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach. Such fabulous writing.

I remember loving The Handmaid's Tale when I read it in high school. I need to pick it up again.

Yep - #5. So far this one if my favorite. I think it's because I haven't seen this movie at all and I have absolutely no clue what's going on. All of the others I sort of had a clue and I was just waiting for that "thing" to happen (like the tri-wizard tournament and what not). I don't know what's going on in this book and I'm kind of pumped about it.

Does anyone around here like Little House on the Prairie? (The show?) If you did - Confessions of a Prairie Biitcch was really good
