Bridesmaid shoes

My girls dresses are navy. I have been everywhere to find them shoes and just when I thought I found a pair at David's bridal my moh said the were just ok. Are you guys letting them pick out their own shoes? I feel like there are so many versions of navy. Where did you get yous?

Re: Bridesmaid shoes

  • What about a neutral? IMO, asking them to buy a shoe in navy is pushing it a bit and you should consider chipping in the cost. But if you go for tan or silver and give them the option to choose, they'll be able to go with what they prefer. If you mandate a specific shoe down to brand, you really need to pay.
  • My girls are wearing navy as well. Their dresses are long though so I have told them metallic shoes of their choosing. I prefer nonmatching looks though like you said navy is hard to match and at least a metallic shoe can be worn again. Are your dresses long or short?
  • My girls dresses are a sage green and I am letting them pick their own shoes to have some individuality and pick shoes they may want to wear again.  Something you can do if you really want navy is do the dyeable shoes, so they can each pick their own shoe and have them dyed together to the same color navy.
  • I'm pro picking their own shoes. I LOVE navy and nude together! Everyone is different and like different shoes.
I also think nacy dresses and navy shoes are just too matchy matchy for my taste.
  • My girls are all wearing any shoes they like, as long as they're matching the color (either black or white). I figure they all have black shoes, so they wont need to go buy some new shoes to wear once.

Agreed. In my case, my girls are wearing black dresses so I told them they can wear any black shoes they want (within reason, of course...no sneakers! I'm sure they will all end up with a pump or a strappy sandal, anyways...) Since I'm letting them pick their own, I'm not offerring to pay. My opinion, go with silver or tan and let them choose their own. Or...do people still dye shoes? Or is that a thing of the past? Maybe you could let them pick out different styles and dye them navy?

  • I think picking a color for shoes - nude, black, silver, gold - is more than enough.  Like you said, there's tons of shades of navy, and I don't think that's the best route.  I'd go with silver, personally, but it depends on your wedding colors - nude is also very popular right now and goes great with navy.

Ditto banana and kfesta...if you want a specific shoe you should pay for them.

I'm not particularly picky about the bm's footwear, and I'm not into things being matchy matchy. So I'll prob suggest to my bm's a black or dark colored shoe to accompany the dress.

For navy dresses, I agree w/ PP's that a nude or light colored shoe would look really nice. And more of the girls will have a light colored shoe in their closets already. If you want to buy them shoes, I would look for either a yellow shoe or a gold sparkly shoe. But that's just my taste :)

  • My girls' dresses are a dark purple - rather than trying to match the dress I'm going to ask them to wear black shoes. I'm letting them pick out their own shoes - it's just easier that way imo.
  • Ditto PP- I would just go with a neutral color. I get so nervous about dyeables because I've heard horror stories about the dye leaking on dresses!!
  • I let all my girls pick their own style shoe as long as it was black satin, They had so many great choices & loved that they could pick what they were comfortable in.

  • I let the bms pick their own shoes. The only thing I said was they all had to be purple or silver. They all decided on getting them from David's to match their purple dress. But they all Ordered different shoes

  • My girls are wearing magenta and I told them they could pick out any shoe that they wanted as long as it was silver and satin.  They were happy because silver is a color you can wear with so many things.  I personally don't believe in dictating what the BM shoes should be down to the very brand and style - unless the dresses are short and you want them all to match, then I think that'd be okay.

  • My girls have a china blue color shoe- something they all wanted. I was just going to have them pick their own tan shoe, but they wanted color, so they all deciced on the same color and shoe that they liked! Ended up working really well. :)
