Need Entertainment and Getting to Know You

Hi ladies...on the way to class this morning, I was listening to Phil Collins' "Groovy Kind of Love" (I know, I'm a huge cheeseball) and thinking about first dance songs.  So I was wondering: what is/was yours and your H/FI's first dance song?

We haven't picked yet....it won't be Phil Collins lol.

  • Oh I <3 Phil Collins! Like sick, obsessed with him.

We danced to "Young at Heart" by Sinatra

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

  • I think we are going to go with Living of Love by the Avett Brothers. The jury is still out though...

We have a re-mixed version of Everything by Michael Buble. I don't know what I'm going to do the Father Daughter dance though...my dad is etching for Butterfly Kisses which makes me want to hurl.

  • I knew father daughter dance as soon as I heard it while reserching. Little Miss Magic by Jimmy Buffet.
  • We danced to "Would You Go With Me" by Josh Turner.  I had grand visions of amazing two-stepping, and we pretty much ended up just swaying.

I stole Julie's father-daughter song: "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon.  It was perfect.

  • We did "Can't Help Falling in Love" but a cover by the Eels, not the Elvis one.

Ours will be Let me hold you by Stoney LaRue! It's our fav!! Walking down the isle to a Stoney song too, singer acompanied by an acoustic guitarist! Cant wait to hear it! :)

  • Love Stoney LaRue!

Ours was "Sparks" by Coldplay. We had a lot of ideas but had this one had always stuck. Ended up working out great since DH couldn't really move around during dancing because of his leg. My dad and I were going to dance to "Here comes the sun" by the Beatles but ended up with Loudon Wainwright III's "Daughter". No history behind it,  but I like it.

  • We did "Lucky" by Jason mraz and Colbie Calliat for our first dance, "I loved her first" by heartland for the father/daughter dance

  • I might steal it too! I love "I loved her first" too. Also, so glad to have some other Phil Collins fans here. FI and I get a kick out of Phil Collins and Wilson Phillips singalongs. I think I'm showing our ages. :

<div>I always joke that my greatest disappointment is that my husband knows very little about music.  He used to get rental cars with Sirius with his old job, and he'd listen to 90's on 9 and be really proud of himself when he could identify the music I was listening to.</div>

  • Our first dance was to "Feet Don't Touch the Ground" by Stoney LaRue. But our private last dance was to "Free" by Zac Brown Band. And I still bawl when I hear it!! My dad and I danced to "You Are so Beautiful" by Joe Cocker. We struggled with this one!
  • Our first dance will be to "Secret Smile" by Semisonic.  It has always been true for us and so we figure it will be perfect for our first dance (it's also been "our" song for the past 8 years :-P).

I still haven't decided on a Father/Daughter song yet.  That is super hard for me to pick...everything is either too country, too maudlin, or was meant to be a love song for a couple.

OMG I almost forgot about this. Back to the drawing board...
  • Yes! Our private last dance was one of the most memorable moments of our day! I *highly* suggest doing one to take it all in. We did ours to Florence + the Machine's You've Got the Love although I had about billion other I had in mind.
  • Oh yeah!  Our last dance was to "Trains" by Seven Nations and I bawled my eyes out the whole time.  =)  So special.
