Workout Accountability: Wednesday

Morning everyone!

I ran 4 miles last night in the rain and loved it.  I probably could've gone for 5, but I felt crunched for time. Moving/wedding planning is sucking up all my energy.

Tonight I'm lifting (legs today) and doing the elliptical. I'm making the asparagus pasta from SkinnyTaste for dinner, one of my favorites from the site!

How did everyone else do?

Re: Workout Accountability: Wednesday

  • Morning!  Way to go on the run, Jude!

I skipped yesterday.  I just started tutoring this week, so Tuesdays will probably become my new off-day, at least until the end of the school year.  Plus, there was more drama with the friend who just got engaged.  Everyone is really on edge and not happy, and my bachelorette is supposed to be in two weekends, so I'm really worried it's going to become drama-fest after a few drinks.  I'm at the level where I almost want to cancel it, but it is what it is at this point.
    Ugh, sorry for the rant.

Anyway, I'm going to run today.  I hope the rain stops at some point so that I can run outside, otherwise I'll head for the treadmill.  Eating has been going well (minus a few jelly beans yesterday!)

Hi Girls! I just changed created a new account because I think my old screen name was too searchable. Hopefully I am now in the right account- I'm having some trouble so I'm going to post and see!

ETA- ok so my avatar hasn't changed yet, but will be the same, if you don't recognize me from previous posts, check yesterday!

I changed my name b/c after working out yesterday at home on my elliptical, I took a PG test and it was positive! EEEEK! So I am super excited, and we aren't yet ready to tell our IRL friends and family since it is still so so new, but I am bursting to share the news!

So obviously my weightloss and exercise goals are changing a bit! I am going to up my calories to maintenance level and tone back the running a bit. I am still planning to run as long at it is comfortable and the doctors say it is ok. Today I might try and easy 4 miles and see how it goes! Any suggestions and tips are more than welcome!
  • KPD - CONGRATS! I believe when you're PG you can maintain the same level of fitness up to a certain point. Definitely a good idea to keep active! One lady at my gym was exercising probably right up to 2 weeks before she gave birth, then she went MIA for a month and was right back to the gym with baby in tow. What an inspiration!

Last night I got 50 minutes of light cardio on my bike. I wanted to go for longer but FI kept harassing me that dinner was done. Tonight WOULD be weightlifting and gym night, but we have some friends coming over for dinner. After they leave I'm hoping to get at least a half hour on my bike.

  • KPD - Congrats girl!!!

Jude - Nice running! I can't wait for the day I can run 4 miles without having to talk walking breaks.

Lobsters - I hate drama, but don't cancel your bachelorette! Just set some ground rules ahead of time, drama free zone.

This morning wasn't supposed to be a cardio day for me but I decided to try and just run a mile. My calves are still sore from my outside run on Sunday, a lot of hills. So I did get to the mile but I had to take a 45 sec walking break. Boo. I was a little disappointed in myself. I am really trying to improve my running! I also lifted this morning for about 30 minutes, arms and shoulders.

  • KP!! Oh my goodness, congratulations! I remember you saying you and your FI were going to TTC in a few months, were you guys surprised? (If you don't mind me prying).
I'm very happy for you! I don't have kids, so hopefully some of the moms that post in here can give you some exercise advice.

Lobsters, I'm sorry about the situation with your friend. I hope everyone can put aside their feelings for your bachelorette at least.

  • KPD- CONGRATS!!

Last night I was so exhausted after work and stomach-achey (back to shakes today!)  that I didn't work out.  I think my body really wanted a rest and it was nice spending some time with FI.  I feel like too often it's wake up, go to work, go to the gym, eat, and go to bed.  It was nice to just hang out.  I'm hoping to get some sort of exercise in besides the daily walks with the dog today!
  • Thanks everyone! We weren't too surprised as we haven't exactly been careful- more like just trying to avoid on ovulation days! I had taken a test on Saturday and it was negative, but by yesterday I was a week late so figured I'd take another- and there were the 2 lines! Looking back, I think I was ovulating more towards day 21 than 14- we are ready and excited and only very very minorly bummed I can't drink at my wedding! It still hasn't all sunk in!

Lobsters- you should definitely keep your bachelorette party plans! You'll have a great time, but if it gets drama filled you can fake a stomach ache and head home early!
  • Yay KPD!! Congratulations!!! Sorry about the drama, lobsters. Go ahead with your bachelorette party and enjoy yourself with the people who care about you! I'm sorry that you have to deal with that. Good luck getting everything together for the move, jude. Hopefully it goes smoothly for you!

I did 1.5 miles on the treadmill last night. Tonight I'm hoping to do 3. It's raining here and my students are slowly, but surely settling into "I'm done with school" mode. Quite annoying, so I don't have much to contribute today other than whining.

    Have a great day everyone!

  • KPD - oh my goodness that is AWESOME!!!  That is such wonderful news - don't worry about the drinking part.  I'm sure someone can make you some yummy mocktails : )

This morning I lifted back & hamstrings, and did 30 minute intervals on the treadmill.  My BL weigh-in at work was today, and I was stressing because every week I try to wear as little clothing as possible without being obscene.  Well, lightweight, not little.  Anyway, it is rainy & nasty today so I had to wear more clothing, but I still lost 2.2 pounds!  Yippeeeee!  I've made a really conscious effort this week to cut WAY down on grains and it is crazy how fast I started to notice it making a difference.  This weekend is my 2nd fitting, so I am eager to see how my dress fits!

Have a great Wednesday.  And KPD, congrats again - enjoy this time in your life!
  • Day 3 on the South Beach Diet and all is great so far! I did the elliptical for 40 minutes this morning, then did the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, still on level 1. Feeling great and  looking forward to getting into that bikini for my honeymoon in Antigua!!!

  • Good job everyone!  Congratulations KPD!!  How exciting!

I did the elliptical last night for over an hour.  I now need to get my eating back in order.  I think it's hormones this week that I want to munch all the time, so I'll try to control that.  More cardio tonight.

  • Congratulations KPD! I wish you and your family all the best!

I did 30ds yesterday morning and rode the bike last night for only about 30 minutes. This morning I ran to the gym before FI woke up and got about 30 min. of elliptical in. Today is his birthday so I rushed home to surprise him with breakfast. Tonight's going to be rough because we're going out but I'm planning on being the DD and ordering a veggie burger. We'll see!

  • Wow KPD! That is great news! I wish you and your family the best! So exciting!

Today my in-laws are coming to town becuase tomorrow... I'm GRADUATING!!! I will now become: Dr. Martinez-Kellar. So cool!!!!!

Today I'll run for about 30 minutes and will see how much ground I can cover then. I started using the mapmyrun app and love it! It tracks your route and estimates calories burned according to your pace. Pretty nifty.

I have to say, it's been hard to keep motivated to work out... so many things are going on with graduation, finishing up classes, starting a new job. I feel like my routine is being thrown off. I'm trying to figure out ways to stay motivated but it is hard... last night I was so tired from work that I came home, made a wrap with chicken, pesto, spinach, tomato, and went to bed. I haven't lost much weight either and have sort of stagnated. I just know I need to get back on a routine and now my husband (my running partner) hasn't been working out with me because he's just started his own business and has been working super late. It's an exciting time, but I kind of miss having him around as my work out partner. Hopefully I'll get out of this workout slump soon. With our vacation a month and a half away, my goal of wanting to feel amazing in a swimsuit is slowly slipping away.

  • I did pretty well yesterday...took a 40 minute walk at lunch, then did a pilates class and a bootcamp class at the gym.  Bootcamp KILLED me, but I'm glad I did it.

It's raining here AGAIN today, so not sure I'll be able to get in a good walk at lunch.  Might just do some laps around the inside of the building/stairs.  I have a fitbit, so I'm always trying to sneak in extra flights/steps!   Tonight FI and I are finally going to see the Hunger Games, so no evening workout.  I'm reallllly hoping the weather will clear up and we can at least walk to the movie theater to get in a few miles, but it doesn't look like the weather is going to cooperate.

    Have a great day, everyone!
  • Kp - Congratulations! That is SO exciting! I haven't had any babies yet myself, but what I learned from my friends who have had them and in my nutrition course was that you only need 300 extra calories (not really eating for two) - but I don't know what week that starts at or if it starts at the beginning. Of course, I am sure your Dr will have the right answer for you. As far as exercise goes, I believe you are able to continue anything you are currently doing, aside from activities that pose direct risks (ie. horseback riding, something where you could fall from a height, etc. or HIIT b/c your HR is going up and down constantly, but it still might be ok at the beginning). That's what I've been told - but again, Dr is probably the best bet. I think the "talk test" is recommended too later on in pregnancy, where you should be able to carry on a conversation while exercising. Super happy for you both!

Lobsters, go to your bachelorette and have a great time. Hopefully your friends can pull together and realize that your bachelorette is about you and your friends having a good time together - and leave the drama out of it. Wishing you well!

Frances - I did not know that app existed! I just installed it as I read your post, looks awesome I'm going to try it out too!

I'm having a bit of an off morning so far, weighed myself only to find that I gained a pound and a half since my Saturday morning weigh in, which sucks because I feel like my eating has been decent and I actually have exercised more this week than I usually do. I jogged 9 km so far this week and I don't think I've ever done that much in even two weeks before. But my back muscles and my arms have been sore from golfing over the weekend too, so they're probably retaining water... I also put cinnamon on my eggs instead of my yogurt, and then proceeded to pour my juice all over myself while I was carrying everything to the table this morning. I want to go back to bed. Whining done.

Today I'm going to try to do 4 or 5K at a faster pace than I did earlier this week. See if I can do it!

Have a good day everyone! Ps, sorry this was a novel.

  • Congrats on the little one, KPD, and congrats to Frances on graduating!

As for me, I skipped yesterday, but I made up most of the difference this morning.  I'm following Tony Horton's 10 Minute Trainer, and today was supposed to be my "rest" day (only 1 10 minute video assigned instead of the usual 3) so since I rested yesterday, I did the assigned video today plus two from yesterday's assignment.  Hopefully it won't throw the plan off too much.

In my own exciting news, I have a job interview tomorrow for a really cool opportunity (can't really disclose details online because it's kind of specific and I'd hate to "out" myself, since I'm keeping my search a secret from my current job, for obvious reasons).  I'm a little nervous, but also really, really excited.  Happy Wednesday everyone!

  • I don't know either of you, but congrats KPD and Frances!

I ended up not being able to even really MOVE last night because I had such severe knee pain.  Today I'm battling a severe sore throat that may be strep so I'm thinking it's a stay at home and pop in an exercise DVD kind of night.

  • Happy hump day everyone!!!!! Insanity day 3 today!!!!! Staying around 1200 calories and I've lost 1.8 lbs..... Not much but it's a start!!!!
    Wedding Countdown Ticker image
  • I need to start participating here to keep myself accountable. So far I have lost 10 pounds out of a goal of 25-30.  The last month I haven't lost any I chalk that up to stress and eating out a lot as we have been the process of moving.    May is bike to work month so that should get me being more active.   Biked in this morning, the route to work from my new house is 6 miles so that gets me 12 miles round trip every day.   This should help kick start the weight loss again.

  • Hi all,

I am new to this whole forum thing but I figured I would give it a shot to try and keep myself motivated! I'm in sort of a rut because I want to work out and get into shape again but I am working 2 jobs and taking 2 classes online and by the time I get home around 6:30 at night I am EXHAUSTED and don't want to do anything but eat dinner and relax with my finace. Plus one of my jobs I am on my feet constantly for 6 hours so my legs and feet are killing me by the time I get home! I am trying to watch what I  eat but some days it is just soo difficult! I have athsma so my heart rate is usually a little higher than normal so I have been apprehensive about trying any diet pills. Plus I feel like I will feel so much better about myself if I do it by good old fashion hardwork! Any advice to help keep me on track?

Hey, and welcome. I do not want to come across as a B, but you just have to start making time for working out. I know you are busy, but everyone feels that way when they're just starting out, at least I did, - once you start making a habit of exercising, you will WANT to do it and therefore it will feel easier to find time to do so, make sense? Also, you don't just have to run or bike, find something you actually like doing, it will make it easier.

I commend you for not wanting to try diet pills - they are not the answer, and every inch or pound you lose will feel like a real victory when you know that you did it yourself, not some sketchy pill!

Changing your diet is the hard part. Jump on site like My Fitness Pal or Spark people; I use MFP and love it - if you want to join up you can also add me as a friend (smiller52). Track everything you put in your mouth, even if it's only one cherry tomato - it's kind of like a fun game actually! Start cutting out refined carbohydrates & load up on the fruits, veggies and water, lean meats, etc. etc.

Good luck, and stick around on this board. Everyone here is lovely and will provide you with support and advice as you need it!

  • Hi Sarah!

I do have my fitness pal and I like it alot. I love that you can scan the barcode of whatever your eating and it will pull it up right on your phone! I know I really need to make time for the gym I'm just lacking motivation I guess which is no excuse! I lost about 30lbs a year and half ago and I felt great about myself! Then I gained about 10 of it back.. =/ I don't just want to look better for my wedding but I want to feel confident when I look in the mirror. I will definitely be sticking around because as I was reading the posts everyone else did there seems to be a GREAT support system here! Thanks for the advice :)

  • Congrats Ms. KPD!!! Good for you guys. This morning I did 1 hour of a hot yoga "sculpt" class. It's heated with weights! Tomorrow is another yoga class in the AM. I'm about 7 lbs down... still need more to go, but I'm not stressing enough about it. I think about it all the time, but I'm being so lazy at the same time. I was injured for the better part of 3 months, but augh!!

It's finals timehere, and I have a presentation in 1.5 hours, which I am going to rock!  I've been on campus for about 5 hours at this point and was going stir crazy so I went for a walk.  My campus isn't in the best neighborhood, so I didn't go far (only 0.90 miles).  I need to start keeping sneakers and socks in my backpack if I'm going to make this a habit.  Trying to walk fast in flats, with a backpack on just isn't something my ankles appreciate.
When I get home tonight, I'm going to force myself to do some more exercise.  I saw a thing on pinterest that suggested doing one minute sets of jumping jacks, squats, pushups, situps, and lunges.  I don't have the energy to go to the gym on Thursday nights (being out from 8am-10:45pm is evil), but I can do this in my tiny apartment with no problem.
