bridesmaids dresses? colors, fabrics etc

I just started shopping for bridesmaids dresses and I have some questions.  My wedding is in December (in MA) and will be an evening ceremony/reception. 

The colors for the wedding are cranberry, blue and silver. Do you all think silk chiffon is too informal for a winter/evening wedding?

 We want to keep the colors seasonal.  My Fl wants to keep the shade of blue more of an ice color because he feels it's more wintery than a darker blue.  I have four bridesmaids-three are pale and one has an olive complexions.  Three have dark brown/black hair and one has light brown hair.  Has anyone had luck with a lighter shade of blue looking good on a variety of complexion ? 

Also, if anyone has pics of their weddings with blue bridesmaids dresses I'd love to see them!

    When I went to BM's dress shopping, the stores indicated different fabrics are better for different times of year.  Chiffon is a lighter fabric and often seen in warmer months...satin probably for colder months and taffeta for Spring/Summer.  I am sure you will be fine with whatever fabric you choose, just relaying what I was told.

    As for the shade:  generally navy is the best "universal blue" for all skin tones.. lighter ones can make skin look washed out.  I personally think navy is a winter color :).

    I like the dress-- I might snag it for my own -- I'm doing navy blue for my BMs dresses and I agree with sapphire-- chiffon is a great lightweight fabric-- if you look on the knot articles, there is a pretty good article about the different types of fabircs, if not, http://www.elegala.com/go/ideas_advice/for/wedding_dress_fabric_guide/
