tk confessions!ayg??

My work load is still really light and I'm avoiding filing 2011 crap so entertain me. Confession? It makes me really sad that my engaged RL friends won't post on here (adamantly)- I'm curious to see what type of poster they'd be and how they'd interact with everyone.

Re: tk confessions!ayg??

  • I said my TK confession yesterday, about hating the party "no one will ever be as excited about your wedding as you" party line.

For some reason, I'm finding a lot of stuff to be annoying now on TK.
  • The PoB stuff yesterday bugged me.  Get over it, they threw out their dresses, its not a law that says you have to donate them.

  • I don't get why its a big deal that they weren't donated because omg some sick/military/poor people need those dresses. No they don't, no one NEEDS a wedding dress. It is a total want, plain and simple.

    What does PoB mean?

ETA - also, TK confession - I've been seeing alot of interesting discussions lately, like the one that started yesterday about the Native Americans, etc. I enjoy reading them but don't post much because I don't want to come off stupid, since I don't know alot about things like that.

I pretty much hate all of the TK party lines. If I care enough about someone to attend their wedding, chances are I'm not going to judge and bitch about some stupid breech of etiquette.

  • I am annoyed when a poster asks about buying BM gifts and says something about getting everyone the same type of jewelry and having them wear it to the wedding and everyone else jumps in and goes 'Nooooooooo, don't do that. Not everyone likes pearls/diamonds/other types of jewelry'. You know what, STFU. If you don't like the damn jewelry, don't wear it after the wedding. The bride doesn't technically have to get you anything in the first place. And if I hear one more "Shop like it's their birthday", I'm going to stab someone in the hand. Weddings aren't birthdays. Shop like it's their birthday... when it's their damn birthday.
  • Okay, I just saw that chick in that PoB thread from last night who said she used her old underwear as dishrags.  Whatthefuck.

The other one I really hate is "no one will even notice" when someone is bitching about a tattoo or hair color or drunk guest or whatever they don't like about a member of the WP or family.

All etiquette issues aside, it's a BS line. I will totally notice the head-to-toe tattooed BM, or the GM with bright green hair, or the trashed cousin acting a fool. Acting like these things are invisible just because it should be about the B&G is just dumb.

    This made me smile.

I think that buying something that BMs wear to the wedding is OK, as long as you think that they'll like it beyond that.  I've gotten some awesome BM jewelry that I wear quite often.

  • Eye to eye, mara. I cannot stand that line. I'm not getting my BM's a "birthday" gift for my wedding, sorry. My BM's did nothing for my wedding, so they can wear the dresses and necklaces I bought them and be happy, or not. Me buying them a necklace for my wedding is not the end of the world.

Also? Why the hate on pearls? I like pearls.

That reminds me of that poster last year who in a period thread said she plays with "it" and judged everyone for not being curious about their bodily functions. Might have been here or on E, I think it was about divacups?

I agree - it's easy to judge the crazies on here but IRL we go to weddings of our friends and loved ones. Chances are we forgive them some faux pas. I've been to weddings with all sorts of TK no nos and still had a great time.

True story - I went to a wedding that started an hour and a half late, had a cash bar, had to cut the reception short (because it was so late) so we moved it to a totally different place halfway through. I still loved it because it was my dear friend marrying the love of his life. I may judge that same scenario written out on TK but IRL they're my friends so whatevs.

Yes, periods are a bodily function but it's expelled waste. That'd be like playing with your poop. Sure you can be curious about these things, but there are other ways to educate yourself besides hands-on lessons. Gross.

I generally can't get too ruffled by etiquette no-nos at a wedding unless I really don't care for the bride or the groom to begin with.  I think it's fine if people go out of their way to make sure they do every last thing properly - but also?  It can be exhausting.  All of the weddings I've been to have had some serious TK etiquette offenses and I've had a blast at most of them.  I mean, shiit.  It's a wedding.  It's a happy time.  Relax, have fun.  Don't have a coronary over a cash bar or a dollar dance, ffs.
