My fiance and I are recently engaged (about two weeks) and are starting the planning process. I'm still in school and we are currently house hunting, so we are planning a long engagement with a wedding in June 2014. With the long engagement, we aren't sure if we should get engagement pictures done now, or next summer when the wedding is a little closer? Part of me think now because it is still all exciting and new, but the wedding is still two years away. Any advice?

    I have a long engagement as well. I am having my pictures done this weekend. Honestly, when you take your pics are up to you. I just thought it would be nice to take my pics close to the time I got engaged. Whatever you choose, I hope your pics come out amazing. Good luck and congrats on your engagement.

    Are you planning on growing out your hair or anything? Losing weight? What are the stats on brides? Like 95% want to lose weight, or something? (Okay, it's not that bad.)

    Those are reasons I could see to wait, since you have time.

    I am in the exact same position. I'm finishing up school (so excited after 6 1/2 years!), we're house hunting currently, and planning a June 2014 wedding. We decided to wait until next summer because we're using the photos in our Save The Dates so we just wanted more current pictures. It's really up to you though, as far as when, or if, you want to do them.

    Also, we'll be engaged two weeks tomorrow. I read your post and had to check to see who wrote it, thinking perhaps I did and somehow forgot. ;)

    We got engaged in December and aren't getting married till July of next year. We wanted warm weather for our pictures so we waited till May, plus the amusement park wasn't open yet. Its all up to when you want to do them or if you want to incorporate them with your wedding theme/season, etc..

    I got engaged sept 25th got my pics done near the end of october and our wedding isnt until aug 2013
    Anniversary

    Thanks for the advice ladies!

    I think that we are going to get them done in a few weeks by a good family friend who does photography on the weekends as a hobby. Then, once we decide on a photographer for the wedding, we can do a session next summer for save the dates if we want to. Plus, it's nice to do something wedding related right now. We are pretty much just brainstorming and looking at venues right now, so it will be exciting to actually do something.

    We met and started dating when I was in 7th grade, so I think we are going to go back to our grade school and have them taken where we met :)

I wish I did more planning once i was just engaged, I did not do an engagement party, nor did I do engagement pictures until like 6 months later, it was fun but still I would have liked to have the just engaged butterflies still in the air with the pictures. </div><div>I like that your going to have 2 sets done, We also will be having another set of pictures done in a few months..Which is exciting and I will definitely be more prepared, as the first time I was not!  Just make sure you read through the preparing for engagement pictures advice on this site.</div><div>
    </div><div>Side note: Makeup in front of the mirror may look like a lot but barely show up in the pictures. I did not wear enough makeup, it looks like I woke up and went to get the pictures done. I desperately needed help with my hair, I should have gotten a fresh cut....And make sure you check the weather! Even if it rains, buying some cute umbrellas and coordinating could be cute!     Thanks for the advice :) It's supposed to be really hot, so I'm hoping we luck out and it cools off a little. We aren't starting until about 6pm, so hopefully that will help.
