i go on my first wedding dress shopping trip next week : ) so far i've been researching dresses and i have 2 particular ones in mind that i really like but who knows till i try it on. i was wondering if you ladies ended up with the dress you thought you were going to get?

I'm voting sort of because I went in with a bunch of pictures of the styles I liked. I never fell in love with any picture of a dress. But I did fall in love with the first one I tried on of my picks

I bought my dress last Thursday.

I went in with pictures of my must tries. Didn't like any of them. Fell in love with the second one I tried.

I went in knowing I would get something with sleeves, and something ivory.
Well it's strapless and white! But, I am in LOVE! : )

I knew I wanted straps or sleeves of some kind and ended up with strapless. I also loved a lot of Alfred Angelo gowns but really disliked them on. And, I thought I wanted an a-line ball gown and ended up with a trumpet skirt. The only thing that I "knew" that I wanted and actually ended up getting was a white, not ivory, dress.

The dress I wound up getting is a dress I saw on the mannequin when I walked into the bridal store. I called it my "S& G" dress (shits & giggles)...b/c I LOVED the way it looked on the mannequin but knew it was what I was looking for. The minute the consultant zipped me up in it I knew it was the "one".

I went in with one dress in mind knowing it was the one! even thought so when I tried it on. Then the consultant reminded there was one more dress I ahd asked to try on we forgot about, it was one of those dresses that when she asked to pick a few to try on I picked bc I thought it was different, so I thought I'd try it on for fun. It was the complete opposite of what I went to try on, and I fell in love!

I had always thought I would buy a light, summery dress, maybe a halter top with criss crossed straps in the back. Wedding got changed from May to December, outdoor BBQ to ballroom and I ended up with a strapless with beading, an A line skirt and a little train. Love it!

I started dress shopping obsessed with Casablanca 1971. I then saw an Essense of Australia at a bridal show - D1042. After trying that one on, I was SURE that was going to be my dress. Big puffy ball gown, lots of chiffon. I ended up with a satin A-line - neither of my two original dress loves were satin. Or A-line. So I was a little shocked. But I love my dress.

My dress has more beading on the front than I thought I wanted, and it just zips up the back (I'd originally wanted buttons or a corset).

Sort of. I knew I wanted strapless and something not too plain, but not overly ornate. I knew I wanted something from one of two designers. I thought I'd want a lace A-line dress with a colored sash by 1 designer, or a mermaid from the other designer. Ended up with strapless A-line, but no lace and no colored sash.

I just didn't like mermaid dresses on me when I tried them on. They made me feel a bit hippy.

The first dress I fell in love with had no shape and looked terrible on me. The dress I bought looked almost identical, except it was lace instead of beading and an illusion halter instead of an illusion scoop neck.

All I really knew going in was that i didn't want a ball gown, and that I would more than likely be a Maggie or Sottero & midgely bride. i was right on both counts- there was an s&m dress (silver!) that I loved, it has a fitted silhouette, that I honestly thought was it. It was elegant, and had a small train. Then I went shopping with my mom and fMIL, and the consultant picked my dress from the rack. I never would've picked it myself. A-line, ivory and a pretty long train, but there wasn't any question in my mind.

I knew I wanted an Alfred Angelo A line gown. I wanted a corset back and I also knew I wanted one of the dream in color dresses, with navy trim. The only difference is the gown I wanted from online pictures had a sweep train, mine ended up being a semi cathedral train!

I went in saying that I didn't want strapless, corset-back, and lots of beading. I did want straps, more ruching than detailed beads, zip-up back. What did I end up getting??? Strapless, corset-back with beading/embroidery. They looked so much better on than I thought they would. And I fell in love with the little details. I'd say just don't lock yourself into trying only one style on. You never know what will look right on your body. The only part of my "list of requirements" that I actually stayed with are the A-line and it's pure white...everything else changed.

I had an idea of what I wanted, and lots of photos from my searches. I knew I wanted something with lace or beading at the hemline, and not a straight hem. I didn't want anything heavy as we're getting married on the beach and I wanted it to flow like the ocean or in the breeze. I didn't think I wanted strapless,- didn't want to keep pulling it up all day, but was surprised when I tried them on. I did try on several styles to make sure of what I wanted. I also didn't want anytihing over the top. DIdn't like beading under my arms either.

I ended up with a very simple and fairly plain dress with a sweethear neckline, and some beading at the waist line. The most beautiful part of the dress that I fell in love with was the skirt and train. It's a straight A line with lace over it. The satin skirt is striaght to the floor and doesn't extend under my train. So the chapel length train is all lace and beading. I love it. It's light and looks beautiful bustled. I did second guess myself for a while, but I just went for my fitting, and fell in love with it again - so did everyon there!

i voted a resounding "yes!" I knew that I wanted a form fitting gown, off white with lace, and a deep V in the back and front. I knew that I wanted something unique, something comfortable, something that resonated old hollywood glamour with a slightly romantic flair. My two friends who accompanied me had at least 9 dresses in the room. I only came back with 2. The second dress I tried on (one of the ones I picked out) was the one. It did take me 2 more months to actually purchase it, however. I went and shopped around, and, on a return trip to help my best friend find her gown, I found that dress again, shimmerinng in the corner and I just knew - it was time to break out the check book! I've been in to "visit" it many times since, and I still feel like a princess every single time I am clipped in!

I ended up with a completely different dress than I thought I would want. I thought I hated strapless dresses, so I totally wanted a V neck (with straps) and I thought I watned a really simple, not too bridal dress.

I started trying out non-strapless dresses, but there are so few of them, I decided to try strapless just to see. And I loved it! Now I know why most people love it! It took me a while, but I found my perfect dress. And it was completely opposite of what I thought I wanted. I hope I still love it when it comes in in about 2 weeks!!!

I always thought I'd get a gown that was form fitting, then I gained some weight so that was the end of that. I then became obsessed with Maggie Sottero. I didn't like any of her dresses on me so I ended up with an Essence of Australia gown. We postponed the wedding so now it is a year later and my weight came off! Unfortunately I don't have time to purchase the style I always wanted, so I'm wearing the dress I originally bought. I'm just having the hip area taken in a little. The only things about my original dress thoughts that are the same as the gown I have now: corsett back and white.

i had what i thought to be an imaginary dress in my head for months before he proposed. thinking i would never find it, i went shopping after being officially engaged.
i was seriously disappointed at DB, so i went to PREVUE. a smaller dress shop. that place was crazy! filled with tons of teenage girls looking for their winter formal dresses. i thought there was no way i'd survive that! i explained my dream dress in detail to the sales associate. she brought me dresses very close to the one stuck in my head. VERY CLOSE. but no, i wasnt going to settle. then that beautiful little angel did it. in the sea of white, she found MY DRESS! i put the 3 sizes too small dress on and knew it was the one. exactly what was in my head, was now on my body. just too tight, so i ordered mine and now we'll live happily ever after. my man and me, not my dress

I had more ideas about what I didn't want than what I did want. White. NO strapless. No big poofiness or too long of a train. Not too much bling. An old classmate of mine owns a bridal boutique (and offered me the friends/family discount), so I went there first. One Saturday, I tried on a bunch of dresses, and she helped me narrow it down to four very different dresses that still mostly fit all my preferences. I was leaning towards one particular dress that fit all the above criteria and happened to be "off the rack," so the price was definitely right. One of the four dresses we included more for fun than because I thought I'd actually buy it. The next Saturday, my mom, sis-in-law (MOH) and a friend came back with me and I tried all four on a couple times for them. My MOH took a few pics of me in each gown, and I ended up buying the one I had only included in the line-up for fun! SEEING MYSELF IN THE PHOTOS IS WHAT DID IT, so I definitely recommend that if the shop allows it. It's ivory instead of white, has a small train, rouching (sp?), and spaghetti straps with a v-neck and minimal beading. I love it and can't wait to wear it for my FI! :-)

I went to my first dress appointment thinking I was dead set on pickups.. then I put some on and they just didn't give that wow factor I was looking for. So the associate went and got something I never would have picked out for myself.. it was an A-line gown with side gather and a lace up back and I LOVED it once it was on. I ended up going with that style of dress, just a different designer in the end.

So, if the associate pulls other styles definitely put them on and try on different looks, you'll be pleasantly suprised!

No, I didn't end up with what I had originally envisioned. I was looking for simple without too much beading or lace. I didn't want a ball gown or to look like an over-frosted cupcake. I ended up going to 2 different shops on different weekends. The first place I was pretty sure I found what I was looking for but I allowed my friends to drag me to the second shop the following weekend to try on some different designers.

I know many bridal shops don't condone it, but I highly recommend getting photos of yourself in the 1-2 dresses that you think you like. When I looked at myself in the photos from the first shop I had an immediate gut reaction of 'Hell No'. Same with the second shop. There were two dresses I really liked, both very different. After seeing how I looked in the photo of the simple chiffon dress I was sure I wanted vs. the simple, LARGE, ballgown...I picked the ballgown. I LOVE my dress! It has bee a real struggle not making additional appointments to go try it on.

I thought I wanted a sleeveless ball gown. That was always my dream. They looked horrible on me!!! I did get sleeveless, but my dres is fitted just past the hips and then A-line. I adore it!!! So definately try on things out of your comfort zone. You never know which one "IT" will be!!! Have fun!!!

I wanted a bright white mermaid dress with absolutely no lace or beading... I found it but wanted to wait until my mom was in town to buy it. A few weeks later I made three appointments to make sure I tried everything I possibly could before buying it and the appointment before the final store where the dress was at I found The One.... a dark ivory A-line with a huge train and of course, lace and beading.

It's everything I never wanted but it was perfect!!!

The dress I bought was my #1 favorite from looking at dresses online. I went in with about 4 dresses picked out; I think I ended up trying on 8 because the consultant pulled some she wanted me to try. There was another dress that gave me more of the hour glass shape, but I loved my dress from the second I saw it online. It's a satin A-line dress with cap sleeves, a chiffon split front that is gorgeous, and metallic embroidery, it also has a chapel train. I had to take it to my Dad's house and leave it there because I knew I'd want to play 'dress up' at home lol, I love it so much.

I voted sort of because I bought my dress from a local designer, and it's the shape I originally wanted a slim A-line strapless dress with sweetheart neckline and dropped waistline. The fabric I originally liked was silk with lace or organza, but both combinationed looked really old on me so we decided to go with a combination of silk and tulle. Also my dress is ivory, originally I wanted white or offwhite. I can't want to see it ready!

I had no idea what kind of dress I wanted, so I went in with no images of my dream dress. I tried on tons of dresses and ended up getting the absolute last one I tried on - and it's beautiful - more beaded than I thought, but very pretty. NOW, my dream dress would have been something by Vera or Monique, but that's just not in this bride's budget
