Potato, potahhhhto. I personally felt it was more important to treat the people I like well than to invite every joe schmo I've met on the street or may have gone to high school with their sister's cousin's brother, but whatever.

I think what the OP thinks is more important than hosting well is getting lots and lots of gifts. And probably a cash bar.
Kati~ Wow....you ladies sure know how to take things out of context. I never said that I couldn't afford it...just that I think there are more important things in life! I am sorry you may not approve of the fact that yes, I do have friends who's husbands are there ONLY for the alcohol. That doesn't mean I'm not going to invite my friend....or invite her and tell her that her husband can't come! That would be rude! Would it make you all happy if I served ALL of my guests a 5-course meal? Or do you think I should just feed them all BBQ? Cause one of you believes I should serve BBQ...and the rest tell me either feed them all or not invite them. Lopez~Honey, you really don't affect me! If I was ashamed of the hell I have been through, I wouldn't have made it public knowledge! Oh, and I never said any of your marriages weren't valid. My proposal story is important to me, because of my FI. You don't know him and you don't know me...so don't think for a second you have the right to judge me. If your FI got down on a knee or not...it doesn't matter...it was perfect to you! Mine...was perfect to me and my FI.
    Posted by ccallaway03
What is wrong with a BBQ? Nothing, unless you're a vegetarian (which I am) in which case you could have another option! Or a buffet! Those aren't tacky. What you want to do is EXTREMELY tacky!!

Your proposal isn't exactly sitting well with a lot of people. I know why it bothers me, so I wont say why it bothers them. You laughed at your FI. You made him propose three times. You made him "do it right". All very tacky and rude. ITs very nerve wracking for a man to propose, you sound like a pretty big biiiitch.

And, to top it all off and really piss you ladies off...we have asked for people to NOT bring gifts. The only people who can see our registry are the ones that will be at our bridal shower. We have registered for maybe 10 things...because we have everything we need.

I would bet my house that the OP doesn't know what "five course meal" really means.

ETA: But OP, my suggestion to go with bbq for the entire 500 was sincere. I love bbq and it goes great with beer. What's the menu for your 5 course meal?
