New to the board -OOT Bride to be

Hello Everyone!  My name is Lela and I have been a part of the Florida-Northeast Brides board but recently got the idea to possibly move my wedding to Orlando.  Since my date isn't until 2012, I have plenty of time.  I know NOTHING about Orlando so hopefully posting on ths board will help me out a bit.

My first question is has anyone been to or plan to have a wedding at the Shades of Green? Secondly, is there another local board with vendor reviews and other info?

Thanks!

I haven't, but I was just talking to a friend of my fiance's that is a wedding planner.. and ironically she was like, "do you have anyone coming that is in the military because if you do, you HAVE to check out shades of green!!"  She went on to say how gorgeous it is and how the prices are RIDICULOUSLY low if someone in the military is attending.  So, although I have not experienced it myself, I have heard wonderful things about it!!!!

There's lots of great places around!!  Welcome to the board and have fun planning!!!  =)

Thanks for responding! I do hope to pop in here from time to time; at least until I make my decision on which city I will have my wedding.  Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Try posting this question on the CFL Nest board. I know there's a Nestie who still posts over there that had her wedding at Shades of Green :)
    That's Mrs.skWhitneyAmanda to you!

Thanks for the info ladies.  Umcollegegrl I did look at your reviews and you did touch on something I had questions on.  Which other properties did you use for your OOT guests?

I also posted on the Nest, hopefully I will get a response or two.

    I'm so excited!!!

We made suggestions for other places to stay but did not do room blocks anywhere (I feel like the wedding gods are going to strike me down! lol)  With there being so many hotels in so many price ranges so close, we spoke with a lot of our OOT people before hand and there were so many different plans and a lot of people were planning on staying at Disney for vacation before or after (I called about trying to get a block at a Disney hotel, but unless youre getting married there, you can't.  At the time when I called, you could get a group rate, but you had to guarantee the number of rooms and pay up front or something, I don't remember the details now) so we didnt worry about a hotel block.

If you have more questions, feel free to email me  umcollegegrl at aol

We're booked at Shades of Green for March 19th, 2011!  My mom and stepdad are actually wedding photographers here in Central Florida, and as soon as I got engaged my mom said, "It's too bad you're not in the military, Shades of Green is such a pretty place to get married!"  We would have loved to do a true Disney wedding, but the price tag just wasn't going to work for us.  Well, my FFIL is retired USAF, so he qualifies us for Shades of Green!  FI and I checked it out, and it's beautiful and it's SO MUCH more reasonable than any other place in Orlando!  Plus, the guests think it's neat to be going to Disney for a wedding (it's right in the Magic Kingdom Resorts).  Even though it's not owned by Disney, it still is a really beautiful resort!  I'd highly recommend checking it out!  Good luck - let us know if you have any questions!

ajoyfulnole - I hope this doesn't sound to forward but can I get the name of your parent's photography business?  Now that SOG is a front runner for us, I'll need to start looking at all the vendors.  So if you have any other tips aobut SOG or Orlando in general please feel free to share them with me.

One question for you:  Since parking is $5.00 at SOG, did you plan on purchasing parking tickets or something like that for your guests?

I'm super excited the more I think about having our wedding there. My FI's extended family is mostly in Wisconsin so many had planned to add a stop to Disney/Orlando to their trip anyway.  I think this might actually help out since we will already be there.

The $5 parking is for people who are staying overnight at the hotel, they do not charge your wedding guests.

Ditto on not charging guests for parking!  That was something the wonderful coordinator told me!

I'm always happy to share my parents' info - they're Coad Wedding Photography, www.coadweddingphotography.com. They've actually done several of my friends' weddings, and it's not a big company where you book Richard Coad (my stepdad) and then he doesn't show up but he sends a "staffer."  Rick does all the weddings that they book. Make sure you tell them that you're military going to Shades of Green if you decide to call them!

Good luck planning - I love Shades of Green and I hope you like it too!  If you have any other questions about the area, just let us know!!

Oh, and happe2gether:  If some of your guests are military (they have the qualifications on the SOG site), then they get most of the perks as if they were staying at a Disney-owned hotel, like Extra Magic Hours where hotel guests get spcial access to the parks early in the morning before the general guests arrive, or after the park closes to regular guests.  They also do quick bus charter to the Magic Kingdom Ticket & Transportation Center (right down the road from Shades of Green), where you can catch the monorail or a bus to anyplace in Disney you want to go without paying the OUTRAGEOUS Disney parking fees.  Additionally, you can walk across the street to the Polynesian Hotel to pick up the Resort Monorail Line to the T&T Center and the MK - it's a GREAT location for OOT guests!

umcollege girl - I am SO GLAD to hear you say the food is good!  We don't get a tasting until much closer to the wedding, so that was one big question mark for us as to how the food was.  I've read that the food in the restaurants there is good, and I heard they were going to start offering guests cooking classes, but it's still good to hear actual brides say that they loved aspects of their wedding with your same vendor!  I'm definitely going to check out your bio now!

Thanks SOOOO much for the info ladies.  It is GREATLY appreciated.  I've actually been emailing Bonny lately and I'm going to go down to the site next month to do a walk through to make sure I like the place in person since I'm only seeing it online right now.  I'm sure I will like it because everything is going so well now.

Thanks for the extra info.  We do have a fair amount of military in our family so I'm sure they will enjoy all the amenities.
