24 hour emotional rollercoaster

Sorry this is long, but it's quite a story..

So......we had a meeting at Barnstormer (our original reception location) yesterday evening (17 days before our wedding date). During this meeting, they informed us that they were informed in the past week that they were basically shutdown for weddings because of a fire code issue. The fire marshall would not allow them to host anything in the banquet rooms. II am not kidding.  was in complete shock. I could not believe this was happening so close to my wedding day. It was so surreal to me. The banquet manager and owner were very upset (they cried right along with me) and were doing everything they could to get me a place to have my reception.

Well, I went to work this morning and it was quite obvious to my co-workers that I was not in any shape to be working and I needed to go get this figured out. I went home to start calling banquet halls to see if they had our date/time open. One of my bridesmaids was right alongside me helping me make calls. We found a couple places that could accommodate us. Then, wonderful FI surprised me by coming home at the exact moment we were leaving to go check out these places! So, he came along with us.

Long story short, we visited a few venues, went over pricing and ended up paying in full at Crystal Gardens in Howell at 4:30 this afternoon, Thank God! The salesperson we worked with there was amazingly accommodating and helpful. She has gotten us a comparable package and worked within our original price range. Now, I am working on getting word out to our guests!

I hold nothing against Barnstormers, it was beyond their control. And I am forever grateful for Crystal Gardens and all of their help and would definitely recommend them.

I had to share this with all of you, especially since you will now notice a difference in my vendor reviews! I seriously CANNOT believe that this has happened. We've been engaged for almost 2 years and have been so good at keeping all of our ducks in a row and planning so far ahead. It just goes to show you, anything can happen. This experience has brought FI closer together and really opened our eyes (not that we didn't know before) to the idea of what this day is actually about. The only thing that is truly important is that at the end of the day, we will be husband and wife. All of the other things in the middle are fun, but will not change the way we feel about each other.

Thanks for listening!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!  WOW.  I am so sorry for you.  The new venue looks amazing...you got a great place on such short notice.  It sounds like you have an amazing friend to help you with all of this, and your FI has a great head on his shoulders for coming home. :)

Consider adding an insert to your wedding programs with the name of the new place, address, directions and a map.  That way everyone will be told even if you don't get ahold of everyone prior to the wedding.

Oh my gosh, I can't imagine going through that so close to the wedding - hopefully I won't have to. Props to you and your FI for getting it sorted out so quickly and calmly. I hope they do an amazing job and you end up being glad about this last-minute sswitch.

Oh man.  That really stinks!  Glad to hear you were able to find another location so quickly that you like and they were willing to work with you.  This is one of my biggest fears!  Hopefully everything turns out for the best!

I can't imagine  the pressure you were under, then thankfully able to come out in a good mood due to a great vendor stepping in.

OMG!! I give you MAJOR credit for this. Despite high stress levels and uncertainty, the way that you and FI held it together and worked as a team to come up with a solution is a testament to your relationship and you should be proud of that :) I'm really happy to hear that everything worked out. Congratulations in advance - now go get a mani-pedi and some much deserved relaxation!!

WOW I couldn't imagine going through that.  I'm glad you got everything sorted out though.  I'm not sure how far away both venues are from each other, but hopefully it doesn't affect your head count at all.

wow, I am really sorry to hear that you had to go through that. I hope your wedding was  everything you ever imagined it would be at Crystal Gardens!

I know this is an older post but I just thought I'd throw in a comment to make you feel a little better about not having it at Barnstormer. I had my wedding and reception at Barnstormer last summer and our experience was terrible. Way too many things to mention that went wrong. I look back on my wedding day and it always comes back to all of the things that went wrong that day and how badly we were treated and the bad outweighs the good. About the only good thing I can say is that the food was outstanding. The rest makes me wish that we had a backyard wedding where we had control of everything.

Everything happens for a reason as they say.
