Do the flowers need to match?

I wanted to have hydrangeas for the the bouquets and centerpieces, but carnations or orchids for the boutonnieres.  Would it look weird for the groom and groomsmen to have different flowers than the bride and bridesmaid?

It would be fine. It is done all the time. Hydrangea do not hold up well as boutineers. For my son's wedding the bride is carrying hydrangea and peonie, and the girls are carrying peonie. The boys and my son will have orchid and delphinium boutineers. Don't worry it will look great. Just stay within the color scheme. Also, you can have the florist wrap the boutineer stem in a coordinating ribbon to match the girls or the vest.

No, they don't have to be different.

It is somewhat customary for the groom's bout to be one of the flowers in the bride's bouquet.

Orchids are especially nice for corsages and bouts because they are lighter and easier to pin, and keep on than heavier roses or carnations.  But you can use any flower you want for them, they don't have to match.

Thank you both for your help!  I think I will use the coordinating ribbon idea!
