When are you gonna have kids?  I know that we have talked about this before, but I just need to vent.  I have been married for like 6 mins (okay really like 3 months, same thing), can't I just enjoy being married for a little bit before I start having kids?  Its driving me crazy.  I either get that I should have kids soon or wait a few years, why are people telling me when I should have kids?  How about we will have kids when we are ready to have kids! I have seriously considered responding with "we don't want kids, ever" if only that didn't open a whole other door of questions. 

What responses work best for you to end the baby conversation?

    I've gotten it from time to time, but I think most people who know me know that my career isn't really one that is compatible with having kids, and that we love our lifestyle (which is also not compatible with kids), so I don't think anyone expected me to start popping out babies right away (or ever, really).

    I do sometimes tell people that I'm not sure I ever want kids, sometimes I say that I need to wait for a maternal instinct to set in before procreating, sometimes I say I'm pretty sure have an inhospitable womb, sometimes I just make a horrified expression.  I'm not shy about it.

    I just laugh and say "when I'm pregnant, you'll know but it won't be for a very long time"

    surprisingly not as much as i thought i would....although, i fear that starting soon we'll hear it more since our anniv is sunday
    i guess we don't hear it that often because mostly all we see are our families, and my fam knows we're trying, and i guess my mil doesn't want to seem pushy (although, with planning my sil's bridal shower, she keeps alluding to planning a baby shower soon)
    and the truth is we have been trying, but i'm glad noone has asked because we haven't had any luck yet....

    I get it mostly from our mothers.  I finally got a new job where I dont get maternity leave until i am here for a year.  I told my mom this and she stopped bugging me.  Hopefully that means I am free for at least the next 3-4 months.

    Ditto to uppereast. I don't know why some people find it so strange to not want kids.  I'm almost 34 - the urge still has not kicked in.  I like my life the way it is, thank you very much

    @ dmoney- I think that is another thing I am concerned about, what if I was trying and couldn't get pregnant and all these people where asking, that would make me even more nuts.  

    @leah2b- I like my life as well, and that is why I don't want kids now.  I like being able to pick up and go as I please, it boggles my mind how people can't understand that.  

    I don't feel "old" but apparently I'm getting "older" and need to pop out some kids soon, before the battery in my clock dies.....ahhhhhhh.  

    Thanks girls, for listening, I just really needed to get that off my chest.

    I get this all the time!. A few people even asked us at our wedding! We just say when it happens it happens but we are not planning for a few years, we want to travel, we are happy with the way things are etc. I don't know if it's one of those things that people just use it to start conversation or if everyone is so programmed to think 1st comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage (very soon after the wedding).

    ummmm - how about we're not married yet and we're ALREADY getting the question.

    his mother wants grandchildren so badly she doesnt care when it happens. for the past 3 years of our relationship any time i'm not feeling well or even touch my belly she gets excited and asks "are you pregnant?!"

    How about im 23 and because FI and I have been living together for a couple years and dating since the sand box. People seem to forget how young I am, and that I'm still in school and can't afford a child. They love to ask FI and I when are we going to have a kid. The sad part is even our families ask, I get annoyed sometimes.

    I'm not married yet but I am getting the qestion..so after the wedding, how long are you going to wait to have kids.  A few months?  I laugh and say a few years AT LEAST.  I just got engaged a month ago.  I get it I'm 27 but I still have time people!!!

    We aren't even married yet (tomorrow!!) and we've been getting it all the time!  People are starting to do an over/under on when it's going to happen!
    10/10/10- Ten years in the making!
