Military Brides

Since everyone else is doing it...I'll post an intro too :)

Hey guys! I've been lurking for kind of a long time, partially because I'm a little shy and partially because I didn't have any good questions yet :) My fiance is in the Army, and I'm in grad school...which means I've got quite a while before I have to worry too much about wedding stuff.

I do have a military question though...can anyone ease my nerves about FI going EOD? It's one thing to google it to find out what to expect, it's something completely different to get personal opinions. Anyone have any experience or know anyone who's had experience with that? Thanks in advance :)

    Hi Amber!

Welcome to the board. I'm sorry I don't have advice or experience with EOD but I wanted to say hello and welcome!

Tell us a little bit about your wedding plans so far :-)

Hi!  I'm Sam, DH is an AD Navy corpsman.  He's worked with some EOD guys while in Afghanistan but only briefly.  There are a couple EOD wives over on the Military Nesties board.  You should try posting over there with this question.

Hi Amber and welcome to the board!

The only thing I can tell you about EOD is that one of my marine buddies had that job through 4 deployments and loved it.. crazy man.. but he did. They are trained incredibly well and that's all you can hope for. That sort of thing is out of your control and I KNOW that's hard to accept, but you just hafta be positive. :) (easier said than done I know!)

    Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I was doing pretty well with the "staying positive" thing, and still am, but FI wasn't supposed to find out whether he got the spot in EOD school for another couple months, and today we found out that he will find out tomorrow! Yikes! I think I was just counting on the little bit of extra time to get used to the idea, but it's what he wants to do, so I'm crossing my fingers that he gets it. I'm just not really sure what to expect if he does...I'll just have to learn as I go :)

LetsHIke, I haven't planned too much yet, but we did pick out a venue--Shades of Green resort at Disney. FI is from Orlando, and I'm from NY, so it was tough settling on a state to have it in, but my family is excited that they can turn the wedding into a vacation. I technically have my dress already, but that's because I'm wearing my mom's dress (FMIL is an amazing seamstress and will be altering it to better suit my style). Other than that, not too much planned :) We're still about 2 years out, and a lot can change between now and then.

Thanks again for the welcomes and advice everyone :)

Hi and welcome!  I'm totally jealous of you getting married at Disney World, and Shades of Green is a gorgeous resort too! I stayed there with some friends for my high school senior trip. I'm sure you'll love it, and good luck planning!

I don't know much about EOD, other than it's one of the other options my FI was looking into. I know it's hard to not know what to expect, but I think that goes with pretty much any job in the military (although some are harder than others)... Since it's what he really wants, I hope he gets it!

Hi!!! congrats and good luck with EOD. I don't have close experience with it (no family) But i've had a few friends who have done it. Like firsttimersluck said they love it which is terrifying to me but there we are. I'm new to this too and i guess i'll post an intro after seeing you do it. been lurking for a few months and just started posting. We are also having our wedding in about 2 years. Your venue is great. that is an amazing hotel and setup in disney. One of their nicest in my opinion. :) So even though I can't help much with the current situation hi and welcome from another newcomer

Thanks again everyone! If/when I have any specific EOD questions I'll definitely head over to the Military Nesties board...we will find out in a few hours if FI got the EOD slot :)

PrettyIrishGirl, does it drive you crazy that the wedding is so far away?! People keep asking me if I have a florist, DJ, etc...it's 2 years out, I thought I was jumping the gun getting the venue! I guess it gives me extra time to change my mind over and over though. One of the girls at school is getting married in August, on our 2 week break between semesters...I guess I'll gladly take the long wait over trying to juggle a short engagement/planning with school!
