Wedding Woes

Busy, I have a potty training question

Did you teach Tank to sit or stand?  What about wiping?

I'm so freaked about this potty training and everyone I know to ask has girls.

I can say that I'm so very glad I have DH for PT.  He's very no-nonsense about the whole thing and did a great job with the kiddo.  My mom jokes that he should set up his own 'potty training bootcamp' and have it be his weekend job.

I taught him to stand.  It makes it easier for when he has to pee in public bathrooms.  I had him practice his aim in the tub, clapping when he got it in the drain.  I've heard some people put Cherrios in the toilet for them to "shoot."  When I felt he was ready I stopped using a diaper and night and would wake him up at 1am to pee and then he'd go back to sleep.  You have to decide if this would work for you.  Ninja is a much lighter sleep so we can't do this with her becuse she won't go back to sleep.

The poop training was much harder.  We did a system of if he pooped he got a toy car (they are a dollar each).  If he pooped in his diaper/pants/whatever we took all his toy cars away.  He quickly would get them back if he peed/pooped in the toilet.  This would go on for about a week.

There is a book about potty training in one day which had helpful tips but it took us about 6 weeks to 3 months to say we were a success.

The pooping I wipped his butt until he was 3 1/2.  I'd have him wipe and then check.  I'd wipe and show him how much he missed.  His is now 4/12 and does a great job.  He doesn't ask for help anymore.  When he got skidmarks I'd show it to him and tell him to eat it.  He would say no i'ts gross. I'd reply "then why do you want that on your skin, that is why you have a rash and are itchy."  No more skidmarks.

Hehe.  Dh's grandma trained him with a sharks tooth in the manner of Tank's cars.  I have considered shipping him off to her.  Nighttime could work.  He's pretty good about going back to sleep.  Then again the crib is a whole other issue.  As in he still sleeps in it.  M2 is getting close to needing it.

This is when I think daycare would be helpful.
