Hi! I'm new, and I don't think I'm BSC!

Hi! I've been browsing through TK for a while now, and I thought I may as well join in on this board because I'm (obviously) not engaged (yet).

My bf and I have been together for 4 years, and for the last year, weddings have been part of a lot of our conversations. In October we went looking at rings. :)

This coming weekend we are going away to a resort a few hours from where we each live (we also are living a few hours apart from eachother right now), and I'm feeling really anxious that he might ask me to marry him. I don't want to get my hopes up, because I just want to enjoy the time that we do have together regardless of wether or not he proposes.

Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself... I'm an education student, I live in Canada and I think all of you on this board are very funny. :)

Oh! And I read the Dictionary...

    Flattery will get you everywhere....

    Thanks for making an effort to figure out how it works around here...but

    People who claim to not be BSC make me suspicious.

    Don't get anxious about going away, if he doesn't propose you're just going to end up dissapointed and what could have been an otherwise lovely getaway will be ruined. It's probably safe to say you should avoid TK if you're freaking out, being here will only make that worse.

    Hey!

    Don't get me wrong its okay and normal to be excited about getting engaged, but I have to agree with Button.  Don't get too anxious and just try to enjoy the trip regardless of what happens.  Especially if you've only looked at rings.  Unless you've really talked about getting married/engaged now, I would'nt have too high expectations.

    You do not, at first post, appear to be BSC. Congratulations.

    I think you have the right idea. You seem to KNOW that if you get too wound up you'll end up disappointed, so stick with your brain on that. A little anticipation is fun! Just don't let yourself go overboard.

    Oh, yeah, and now's a good time to tackle the common issues in every marriage: financial planning, in-laws, children (whether to have them, how to raise them), etc. Go ahead and bring up any tough stuff you haven't already. I know even after 4 years there were still a few things FI and I had danced around that needed to get out in the open.

    I agree with Button and others. Try not to get your hopes up and just enjoy the trip.  My FI and I also went looking at rings before we got engaged.  He proposed a year later once he had saved up enough money.  So looking at rings is not necessarily a sign of an imminent proposal.

    Welcome! Just keep telling yourself that he isn't going to propose, that way if he does it's a happy surprise and if he doesn't you don't ruin the whole weekend. DItto PP, try not to get too anxious (I know I know easier said than done) and enjoy yourself!

    What does he do, how old are y'all and are you going sledding. Hey, I've only been around snow 7 times my whole life, I still get really excited about it.

    I agree nothing too BSC so far, you made a better first impression then I did.
    I also agree try telling yourself he wont propose because you can enjoy the time and it would be a real surprise if he did happen to do it. But he wont Wink

    lol... You are all really funny! Thanks for the warm welcome. :)

    Well, let's see. We're both in our 20s, bf is almost a year older than I am. He is a tradesman, and I will graduate next spring with my BEd (woo! it's been long time coming!). I also provide respite care (I am looking after two adults who have Downs' every other weekend) and I work at a drugstore. So that's a bit about us...

    Jeana-- I thought I might sound a bit crazy if I went off about our plans for the future in my very first post ever, but yeah we have had a lot of long talks about everything... We want 2-3 kids, know how we're going to divvy up financial responsibilities once we are living together again, right now we share some bank accounts but keep others seperate, etc... My family loves him (which is a huge relief after what happened with my ex). And his family loves me too (which is good, but can also be bad because my poor bf gets pressured to propose by his whole family all of the time!)

    Hetshup-- we can't go sledding-- no snow! But we will be able to walk on the beach (and it's storm season, so the waves will be amazing), and we're having massages at a spa too. :) It hasn't really snowed here at all.. which is too bad because I LOVE the snow. Maybe it's global warming? The weather out here has been quite warm all winter.

    I plan on just enjoying the weekend. Seeing as we don't get to see eachother that often right now, it will be a wonderful escape regardless of wether or not bf proposes! And I will *not* be disappointed. :)

    Maybe I'll turn on the BSC in my next post (jk...)
