Wine Suggestions?

We are purchasing all of our wine and I'm wondering if you had any suggestions?  We'll be going to Costco/Sams to buy in bulk, but thinking about spending between $6-$7/bottle.

Thank you!

Katie

I'm not a wino but I've heard white zinfandel is pretty popular. My sister in law loves it and that is what they served at their wedding.

My venue is providing white zinfandel, Chardonnay, pinot grigio, cabernet savignon, melot, shiraz, pinot Noir. If that helps? that is with basic beer and wine service
  • for white wines i perfer moscato-- and white merlot (more of a blush wine) they are both delish!! i am not a fan of red wine...but my fsil likes cabrenet alot.
  • If it was me, and I was limiting myself to two varieties each of red and white, I would probably choose Sauvignon Blanc (crisp, fresh fruit flavours), Chardonnay (more traditional, can be rich and buttery or fresh depending on the style), Pinot Noir (a delicate, elegant red) and Cabernet Sauvignon (big, full-bodied, savoury red). If you want a sweeter white I would maybe go for an off-dry Riesling style. That will give you a good range.

Personally, I would stay well away from Moscato (a very very sweet, spritzed, low alcohol wine), but some people do seem to enjoy it. I have never come across White Merlot.
  • If you are trying to pleas the masses stay away from the dry wines. That stuff is HORRIBLE
  • I think I'm going to go with white and blush wines. Not too many of my friends/family are red wine drinkers. I think either white merlot or white zin would work for blushes.

  • Haha I guess it depends who your 'masses' are, Whit. I know that in general, dry whites would be much more popular with my guests. But, since my father is a wine maker and the venue (their home/vineyard) is in a wine region, most of our guests will be big wine drinkers. But certainly some of particularly our younger friends/non-wine-people will prefer sweeter styles. I guess you just have to know your crowd!

Its true. I just know that at FSIL's wedding I accidently got fiance a glass of dry white cause I thought it was the same as what he ordered last round. I was so wrong. lol He hated it, made me try it and I hated it, then we made his dad's girlfriend at the time try it and she hated it lol. But its true. Perhaps if you have a cultured crowd it will be better received!
