Bridesmaids Dresses, Same Color, Different Style

I have seven bridesmaids, and I know they would all like different dress styles. I need to know what website/designer allows you to choose different styles, while still guarunteeing all will be the same color.

Re: Bridesmaids Dresses, Same Color, Different Style

  • Any designer can do this.  All designers standardize their colors across the line.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. • Thanks for your response. I know that all designers have standard colors, but when I try to preview my options online (ie watters & watters) not all designs are offered in all colors. Are you saying that if I contact the company they will be able to accomodate me?
  • I think you should browse different designers like a normal person, rather than ring up a company and ask them to stock your dream color.  Just go through different websites.  I personally recommend looking at them in person, since the colors can look really different online.

A word of warning from your friends at Cracked.com: Remember that text is going to be how you make your first impression over the internet; if every third word you type is misspelled, people will automatically assume that you're a moron.
  • I think it's more like designers offer the same color in multiple designs.  So if you choose pear green, they aren't going to have only one dress in pear green.  However, I don't think that means you can get any dress of your choosing in pear green, for various reasons.  They might only have pear green in tafetta, which doesn't work in some styles of dresses.  Does that explain it?

  • Many of them let you browse by color (I know David's does).  You might be able to call the designers and ask how many dresses are available in your chosen color.  Some colors aren't very popular or are difficult/expensive to manufacture, so they aren't used as widely.

  • Davids Bridal, Alfred Angelo, Bari Jay, Mori Lee, etc.  You can do this with pretty much any designer.  Look online, see who you like, and then take your girls and make sure the price/look works for them.

  • You can do that with any designer.  Choose a color and a designer that are within your BMs' price ranges, and let them choose from dresses in that color.  If the dress doesn't come in the right color, it's not an option for the BMs.
  • I did this at David's Bridal.  My girls all looked great!

We went through this with my cousin's recent wedding. Watters and Watters only offers certain colors in certain fabrics. If you are comparing a taffeta and shantung dress, the fabrics will not necessarily come in the same colors, and even if the color is similar it won't look the same - different fabrics hold dye differently.

If you want to let them pick a style but it's important to you that everything still matches color-wise, you need to specify a fabric in addition to the color. The company will be able to tell you which styles come in the same fabric (and therefore color) ranges.

If you're looking at the Watters price range, try Coren Moore and LulaKate as well. My cousin found that in these two brands, nearly all of the dresses come in the same fabric options. If you specify the fabric and color, any dress they like in the line should be available. She did not find that to be the case with Watters.

  • I did this on AnnTaylor.com. My two bridesmaids had three styles (in the same color/fabric/length) to choose from. Another similar website is JCrew.com.

Alfred Angelo is a very easy and fairly inexpensive salon designer, if you want to go that route. David's Bridal is also quite easy in terms of picking different styles in the same color/fabric.
