Weekend Wedding Weirdness

FI and I went to a wedding this past Saturday.  FI works with the groom but neither of us knew the bride.  For the most part we had a good time, but something really bothered me...the bride and groom were NEVER together.  Sure, they did their first dance and sat together at the head table, but other than that they were never together for the rest of the reception.  The bride was dancing with her BMs and the groom was socializing and dancing with everyone, except for his new wife.  I don't know why this bothered me so much, I guess I just found it to be very strange.  It was like they were living 2 separate receptions!

Another thing that bothered me was that the bride did not socialize with anyone except her BMs/family.  Sure, the groom came up to us and thanked us for coming and stopped at our tables a number of times throughout the night. but the bride never did (like I said, they were never together) which I found to be very rude.  Granted, we didn't know her but at the very least I think that she should have introduced herself and thanked us for coming.  At the end of the night, FI and I said goodbye to the groom and then FI turned to me to ask if we should say goodbye to the bride...I said why bother, she didn't even bother to thank us for coming.  These people are invited (and I think are coming) to our wedding, I guess I'll just have to show this bride how to be gracious!

A few other very weird things.  I walked into the bathroom and a guest was washing her feet in the bathroom sink!  Seriously gross!  She was telling people that she's obsessed with clean feet?!  Also, a very drunk Best Man was hitting on me (please don't let your best man get this drunk!).  I looked at FI, he just laughed...he was a big help LOL!

Re: Weekend Wedding Weirdness

  • FI and I went to a wedding a few weekends ago where the bride and groom did the same thing! They each socialized with their own friends and family throughout the evening. The groom literally spent hours in the corner with his BM and GM while the bride went around thanking her family and friends. There were times the photographer had to gather both of them in order to take pictures! They ate dinner together but ate the cake separate from one another too. It was really weird and super awkward for guests!

  • That is odd, and the foot washer is crazy IMO. I like my feet to be clean as much as the next person but I don't wash them in the sink of a public restroom.

  • I really think it's weird when the bride and groom spend no time together too.
And I have a funny story about the foot thing.  I was at a wedding last year and someone spilled a drink down my leg.  The sticky feeling between my shoe and foot got unbearable, so I washed it in the bathroom with wet towels.  Putting it all the way in the sink is weird.  Was she in a dress? I hope she had on underwear!

That sounds like the strangest wedding! I plan to drag FI onto the dance floor with me all night!

If the bride is a shy person, I may understand not socializing much outside of her circle.

But seriously....who washes their feet in public? Grr...people are so weird and annoying.

  • I have a different opion on some of this...mainly b/c I think it might happen with FI and I to some extent. He HATES dancing. Of course he will have to do the 1st dance and some other dancing...but I honestly doubt he will be on the dance floor as long as I will be with my girls, family, and friends. Where we will differ is that we will be together at certain points of the night and will surely go together table to table to thank everyone. We also know just about everyone who is coming to our wedding. He might not know my work friends husbands, but he knows the girls from work and are fine with them, same for me with his work friends. I couldnt imagine him and I seperated for that long during our wedding. Goodness!!

I have to laugh at the sink thing...that is just funny. I could easily see someone doing that at my wedding. We are a bunch of rednecks though.

    Anywho...just my opinion. :)

  • I understand where you're coming from Fishin.  My FI doesn't really like to dance either, so I'm sure there will be times at our wedding where I'll be on the dance floor and he won't.  However, we won't be separated the entire night like this couple.  FI promised me that he will make an effort to dance at his own wedding LOL!  Also, it wasn't like the bride or the groom didn't like to dance.  They were both on the dance floor most of the night...just on opposite ends of the dance floor!  I just couldn't understand why, if there were both dancing, they weren't dancing together?!

Oh, and yes the "foot washer" was in a dress.  She just hoisted her leg up to the sink and under the faucet!  I tried not to watch, but it appeared that she was very flexible!

  • Very flexible...HAHAHA

OH!!! I thought maybe he didnt like to dance or something. I agree that it is really awkward. I told FI the same thing...you will have to dance at your wedding!! Did they go on a honeymoon? Is she a mail order bride? lol

  • Stupid internet cut off and my post went away, argh

Haha Fishin, that is awful, in the funniest way possible : )

I get the feeling that I will be attached to FI the entire night, and least he and I can be not terribly fond of dancing together. We'll do choreagraphed dances but probably not a lot else. I find it so weird that she didn't want to be with him the whole time.

And I will go ahead and admit my own weirdness here. If I were one hundred percent sure that my feet needed washed, I would find a way to get it done... the main restroom, in a dress, with my leg hoisted in the air might not be my first choice... but to each their own I guess.

BTW, Nic - I PMed you back and for some reason have some aversion to paging you again... I tried to tell you once before but I am not sure that you saw it.
  • The funny thing is that people at our table kept talking about how the bride and groom are usually all over each other with gross PDA! Maybe they decided to tone down the PDA and wound up overcompensating to the point where they didn't talk to each other at all?! LOL Lepoissonrouge - just read your PM. Didn't see it before
