When did you have your rehersal dinner?

I was just wondering where and when people had theirs. I really wanna relax the night before if I could do it earlier than that I would. Is there a rule?

My priest wanted to do the rehearsal the day before the wedding, so we had the RD immediately following.  I don't think there is a rule; just so long as you can plan the Rehearsal right before and have it coordinated with all guests and officiants, etc.

I also had several people coming in from out of town who were invited to the RD, so it was better for us to have it the day before.

We went to Angelo's Northwood Villa just over the stateline in Michigan.

We are having ours the night before as well since the rehearsal is that night and many people invited will be coming from out of town.

We are having ours at the Oliver House.

There's no rule, but if you have a lot of people coming in from OOT you might want to have it the night before so they dont have to take extra time off and come in extra early (unless they are fine with that).

We had ours the night before.  Just like PP said, it is easier for OOT people to be there, even though everyone still might not make it due to work and other conflicts.

Ours was at the Monclova Community Center and catered by Olive Garden.  The Monclova Community Center has a couple of rooms you can choose from I think.

We didn't include anyone other than our officiant, our parents, the bridal party and their significant others. We had less than 20 people.  It was really nice to keep it casual and small- it made the rehearsal much more productive and it was one less thing to worry about.

We did ours at my MIL's house.  She cooked for everyone and we did the actual rehearsal in the garage.  We also did ours on Thursday night for our Saturday wedding.  We did it this way because on Friday night there was a surprise 50th birthday party for my FIL planned by his OOT relatives that were in town.   If it would work for the majority of the people that you expect to be there, I would look into doing the rehearsal 2 nights before.  It was nice to get out of wedding mode and relax the night before.

The only "rule" is that you host food and drinks for everyone that you expect to be at the rehearsal.

I have heard of rehearsals/dinner being the Thursday before, and I think that would be reasonable as long as you didn't have out of town VIPs in your wedding party (or didn't care if they weren't able to make it). Most of the weddings I have been in have been out of town and sometimes it's tough to make it for the extra night.

We are also doing ours the night before, since that's when the priest wanted it. Plus, all but one of our bridal party members lives at least 2+ hours away.

@catarntina: we are also having our dinner at Angelo's! FMIL picked it, I've never been. What did you think?? Any feedback appreciated  :)

You could try and do it earlier in the day so it doesn't take up your evening.

Ive had dinner at Angelos and it is really good! I think it is an excellent choice.

Our rehearsal is in our hotel room conference room.  I don't know much about it because my FMIL is planning it.  It is the night before the wedding because we have a ton of OOT wedding party people/

I was in a wedding OOT a few weeks ago, and the rehearsal/RD were on Thursday afternoon/evening for the Saturday wedding. We (the bridesmaids) did a spa day on Friday, so it was nice to just be able to relax. Everyone was able to make it for the rehearsal, but that is something for you to consider for your own wedding. If someone important isn't able to make it on Thursday, consider whether or not it's that big of a deal to have it Thursday instead of Friday.
