Dress dilemia or disaster might be a better word.

Any plus size brides out here? I am a street size 14 but in dress at DB I am in 14W or 16W. I only went to DB "(thinking of budget) to try on dresses and narrowed them to 2 both of which I thought I loved. In hindsight if now feels more like I settled rather than loved either of them. 10 days ago I struggled to make my decision, thinking I was running out of time since they said an estimated 12 weeks to arrive, and I picked one of the dresses and placed the order. 90 mins later I felt I made a mistake and went back and changed the order to the other dress - which now left me with a $450 credit that I need to use at DB, which is a whole other issue - but if any of you happen to be about to make such a purchase at DB and would be willing to exchange cash for my credit, I would of course meet you at the store-please PM me so we can talk  and possibly work something out - it would definately ease some of my growing my stress level.

Anyway the dress came in today and I dont love it, was definately tight and more constricking than the one I tried on (BTW they failed to mention and I stupidly did not think about it - the fact that quite often new dresses are a bit tighter than the samples because of how many times the samples have been streched.  So I reordered the dress in a size 16W and am crossing my fingers but something is telling me I made a mistake and it is not "the dress". I tried on a couple more at DB and none seem to be the dress. I fear that I should have expanded my search and simply been willing to pay more for the dress. Now my fear is it is too late since my wedding is 10/10/10 Cry . I know I dont have a perfect body but I really did not expect it to be this hard and disheartening.  Anyway, I need to pick my self up and move on, I trust in God so I have to believe somehow everything will work out.

I wanted to now if anyone has suggestions on dress shops that may have selections in my size, within my buget of up to 1500, possibly $2000 if I really loved it and where they may be able to get the dress in 3 months, since my wedding is only 4 months away.

Sorry for the long post, but it was a really really bad day.

Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Lisa

I'm around your size, and I got my dress at Park Avenue Bridal in Verona. They had a lot of samples that fit me.

I've also heard good things about Russell's in Linden.

If you find a dress you like, you can look for a used version on preownedweddingdresses.com, oncewed.com, savethedress.com, Craigslist, eBay or the Trash To Treasure board.

Mine cost under $1K, but it came out to maybe $1200 with alterations. I am sure you will have lots of choices with a $1500 budget.

Thank you very much, believe me I was trying to keep it under $1000 but now I am getting desperate and going over budget - which is doable just not what i wanted to do.  How long did your dress take to come in?

Park Avenue is wonderful!!!!! The ladies there are so kind, helpful, and knowledgeable! I have dealt with them lots of times in the past... and would have loved to for my own wedding, but I am wearing my cousin's wedding dress.

Definitely check out there... they will make you feel so much better! And if you keep broadcasting it, I don't think you will have any trouble finding someone to buy your DB credit off of you. Heck, worse comes to worse, I'd be hanging out in the store by the register trying to get people to make a deal with me as they do their purchase! LOL I am sure it won't come to that though...

Best of luck & don't stress! Someone LOVES you just the way you are and wants to spend THE REST OF THEIR LIFE with you!!!!!! Be excited!!!! <3

Also- a lot of the plus size samples that I tried on (I'm a 14) were either a 14 or a 16. You might be able to buy a sample dress off the rack that fits you w/out needing to order a gown (and you might save money doing that too!). I found the plus size samples at Russell's to be just that PLUS size- like all in the 20's and it just became more frustrating for me to be trying on gowns that were so so huge on me. I'm not sure if Priscilla of Boston sells their samples but I know they carried a lot of 14's. I'd call around and get an idea of the gowns you like and see what stores have that gown in a 14/16 sample and ask if they sell their samples.

Congrats and you'll find a wonderful dress that you're happy with. Don't settle at DB.

Cinderella Bridal in Matawan had a decent amount of 14's and 16's in your price range.

I ordered it in June 2009, and it came in in January 2010 (this was for an April wedding, though, so I was in no hurry ... you could always put in a rush order).

And a lot of the samples there fit me really well, and we are probably about the same size, so you could always ask to buy a sample and then just give it a good cleaning.

If they still have the Maggie Sottero "Brittanya Lynette" at Park Avenue and you try it on and like it, I have a size 16 that I'd sell you. (It's been discontinued on the Maggie website, so IDK if they'd still have the sample.)

Thank you all so very much for your suggestions, support and words of encouragement. Heather that is exactly what FI keeps telling me and what I keep trying to remind myself, I'm just really bummed that the dress shopping has been this hard.  Thanks again to all of you, truly!! I am going to make some calls as soon as the shops open and see if I can get into Park Avenue tonight - I work in Totowa so I am very close.

Is there a limit to when you can use the store credit? I know my bridesmaids are getting their dresses at DB but probably not til July or August. But we could probably arrange some kind of exchange.

I think there is a 5 or 10 yr time limit so August would not be a problem - thanks very much for the offer - keep me posted. I do still have some things to buy but at this point I dont know what I am doing about a dress so dont know what I am doing about anything else either. But helps knowing I will have an option for the credit if I dont end up spending it on other things - i'm going to bring my mom to look for a dress there also but no guarantee she will find something so the credit has just been weighing on my mind.  I will PM you my email address. thanks!

I know Russell's Bridal was already mentioned, but i just wanted to let you know that at my fitting last weekend they mentioned how many times girls have come in right before their wedding and purchased the sample dress.  i say this just in case not all stores are willing to sell brides ther samples, but Russell's does.
