Getting in Shape

Starting P90X

Hey everyone today starts a new day in my life I am finally able to start P90X. I took the test last night and passed which makes me very happy. I will be honest my weight has gone up about 15lbs in the last six to eight months and it kills me. So I am devoted to get down to a hundred and seventy five pounds my August. That would roughly be about twenty pounds lost. My fiancé has been doing it for a month and lost sixteen pounds so I can meet my goal. Has anyone every done P90X? If so what were your results in about a month time frame. I will also be eating healthy and counting calories to make sure I get maximum results. Thanks for any advise to help with my future endeavor.

Re: Starting P90X

  • I havent done P90x but I am doing insanity and in a month I have lost 7 lbs but i had to take some time off from doing it cause got sick.

20lbs by august seems like a slightly unrealistic goal becuase the most you really should be losng is about 2lbs a week and with august only 4 weeks away that would be about 8lbs.

Guys are able to lose weight way easier and faster then women can so try not to compare to what your fiance is able to do because that will just discourage you.

I would reccomend trying to set a mre realistic goal then 20lbs by august and tracking your calories of something like myfitnesspal. If your goal isnt something you can realisticly reach then it will be harder to stay motivated. I would say just make the goal to follow the first 30 days of p90x and see where that gets you rather thn a time fame to lose the lbs by

  • I'm doing p90x now and loving it.  PP is right, though, you need to be realistic about your goals, and work toward healthier goals.

The main thing that people seem to forget, though, is that p90x is not actually a weightloss program.  You are going to build some muscle, especially in the first 30 days, that will help you start to burn the extra weight, but is also going to counterbalance with the fat loss on the scale.  Most women see their biggest results after week six.

It is a great program, and I love it even when it kills me, but I would hate to see you give up after the 30 days because the 20 lbs aren't gone.  If you can focus on inches lost, and how you feel while working out, I think you'll have more success with the program.

    Good luck!

  • Haven't done P90x, but my sister did it with her BF.  She had good results...  PPs are correct.  Expect the scale to "lie" for the first little bit while you are gaining muscle and haven't reached the tipping point into "weight loss" (really fat loss).  Go by how you feel, how clothes fit, etc and stick with it.

  • Agreed! Pay more attention to your clothes and be sure any carbs you do eat are complex!
I lost 16lbs with my first round of P90X but that was when I was learing about clean eating and I didn't follow the eating plan well till about half way through. Down 30 now, so just rememeber to keep up the effort :)
If you have any questions about the program remember you can always contact your coach that is assigned to you when you buy the program- mine were a great help :)

  • i am a 2 time p90x graduate!!!!!  ill send you a message!

i LOVE that program!  dont pay attention to the scale, because the scale lies.  i lost tons of inches, but only a few lbs.
  • Sara is absolutely right - don't worry about the scale, judge your progress by how your clothes fit. I'm a 2x p90x grad as well, and I'm now on week 3 of Insanity (which is ever so much harder than p90x!!). Good luck, Candie, and keep us posted on your progress!
  • I just started P90X this week too, to get in shape for my May wedding. I do think that 20 pounds is high. It also sort of depends on how much you have to lose. I finished Insanity and lost only 5 lbs in 2 months, but like 9 inches over all. P90X is different because you are building muscle, and the more muscle you have, the more fat your body burns. I would still stick to it, but don't expect 20lbs in 30 days. It's possible for you to lose that in 90 days, but just pay attention to how you feel, and don't give up after the wedding. This is a lifestyle change that you are making! :)
