Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

Church wedding

Hi, my name is Jessica, and I am newly engaged! We have set our date for Oct 27, 2012! Anyways, since I have never planned a wedding, or even helped a friend plan a wedding, its all new to me! My question is, if I am a member of a church, do they still charge? We have a $7500 budget, with 78 people on our guest list. So, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Church wedding

  • Most churches do have some sort of fee (some call it a donation).   I've heard of anything from 100-1000 dollars depending on the church (how popular it is, denomination, etc).   Some churches will do it for free though; just ask.

Also, it's best to chat with your church before setting a date.
  • I agree with everything PP said. You can say you have a tentative date, but until it is booked, you won't have a set date.

  • A much easier way to find out the answer to your question is to call your church and ask.  They can certainly give you a much better answer than strangers on an internet forum.  But good luck to you!
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • they most likely will charge a nominal fee.  but even if they dont, you should make a decent donation.

also, dont book your venue until you have teh church nailed down first.
  • It depends on your church, really.  I work for a church and we do charge for members, but it's a much lower fee than we charge for people who don't go here.

But I agree with PP, book the church first.  You'll really regret it if you book the reception hall and then find out that the church isn't available.

  • Your best bet is to just call your church and ask them. I've heard that some churches do charge members but it is a lot less than what they charge other people. Also, at this stage in planning, be flexible.
