? for the BF (and pumping) moms

how do you manage to go without pumping overnight? (and did it screw up your supply when you stopped?) I'd love to have that extra 1/2 hour of sleep, but if I forget to set my alarm, i wake up maybe an hour later than normal, engorged, in a lot of pain, laying in a puddle of milk.

as baby mo slept through the night, so did i, and my body adjusted.  i do not have supply issues.

i make sure to pump before i go to sleep, no matter what.  i skipped pumping a few weeks ago and woke up howling in pain at 2am.

i pump right before going to bed and about an hour after i wake up - but if i don't get up on my own at 2/2:30, i'll wake up at 3:30-4 in pain, pump, and then not be able to fall back asleep.

i get as much overnight as i do during the day - maybe this is one of the reasons i have managed to build such a big supply.

Since I've pumped from day 1 (well day 2), I've just always gone 5-6 hours overnight w/o pumping.  I usually pump between 10:30 and 11 and then wake up with DH around 4am and pump then.

I wake up full and a little achy in the morning, but nothing horrible. But I've been having supply issues from the start. Hence me getting a hospital grade pump for a while.

I've had to do it gradually...move the clock back 15 minutes at a time.  Otherwise I had the same 'ow, halp, I'm drowning in milk and my boobs exploded in pain" problems you talk of.

I really have found that, as time passes, I adjust and that I just produce more at each pumping.  I'm now basically doing overnights w/o a problem but it took like a month + to adjust to that.
I'd say adjust ALL your times--not just one.

Basically whatever time I can go between feedings during the AM, I can go that amt of time + 1 hour at night.  So when I switched from every 3 hours at work to every 4-5, I also went from every 4 hours at night to every 5-6.  ANd gradually added 15 minutes over and over and over again to there (so my body is now 'trained' to not produce as much at night)
(why do I think I'm still saying that poorly?  it makes sense in my head but not as I type0

It's supply and demand.  If you keep pumping your body will keep producing.  Don't go cold turkey, but start increasing the time between.
