Hippie - ish wedding

So my FI and I got engaged just over a month ago at a music festival and are planning a wedding for OCT 2013 as of right now - which means we have almost nothing really planned -
I am having some major issues with ideas.. I want the wedding to be relaxed - almost kind of like hippie chic - i still want a gorgeous dress that may be flowy - but more than likely poofy - the guys are going to wear tuxes - i think - with possibly tie dyed vests.. I want a tie dye cake - and glow sticks must be involved  in reception decor.. I do not want giant flowery centerpieces - actually if the bouquets and boutineers are are the only flowers i am fine with that

I am leaning towards colors being red / orange (dark orange) / and charcoal... it seems like i have what i want it to look like in my head but can't explain it to anyone - or find pictures...

I just can't come up with the little stuff i want - like centerpieces and place cards - and such... anyone point me in any direction for ideas..
Thanks,
Diana

This one is a birth announcement but it seems to be the colours you're looking for.. Might help jump start people to see what you see.

This one is fall themed but it sends that relaxed and funky vibe you were talking about

Also, you could easily sub in your tie-dye for almost any of the accents in the wedding. It might be a fun idea to have the escort cards as something your guests can wear and tie-dye them so that way they feel like a part of everything.

I agree, google is an amazing resource when you're first trying to get ideas. Try different combinations of things and see what comes up.
For example, centrepieces... you could try:

    Glow Stick Centrepieces

    Red & Orange Centrepieces

    Hippy Wedding Centrepieces

Then you just take the ideas and see what you like/don't like :) Don't be afraid to make a mockup, not like it and change, I am 4 months from the wedding and still trying to perfect the centrepiece because I wasn't 100% happy with the last mockup! You can also put pieces of each together and see what you can make combining the ideas!

For example, I know you said you weren't interested in flowers, but some of the containers in the floral ones above are pretty cool, so what about putting glow sticks in instead of flowers?

I LOVE those invitations - They are now in a tie with another invitation that is a tree with initials carved in it - basically whatever is still available in 6 months will be the invite

I love the picture of the centerpieces with the Glow sticks around it too - trying to avoid flowers but also looking for things that would be easy - mason jars with glow bracelets aroun them would be awesome - but I don't want to have to actually set them all up that day - and don't know that the hotel would (yes i know hotel for a hippie ish wedding sounds crazy )  but need to the space they offer for the number of people we will have -

The glow sticks in the centerpeice look awesome !!! just have to get orange and red ones - and hope the hotel can set them up close enough to wedding time that they are not all glowed out by the time the reception starts

I found these too = I think they have non flashing options - or you can turn off the flash - would these be too much in the center of a table?   with glow bracelets and stuff around them?

I don't think that would be too much. Just keep your table numbers if you're doing them and any menu options you may choose to display fairly simple to go with them and it won't look like its over crowded :)

Your plans sound great, I love it when brides push the boundaries and dont feel the need to go with the 'norm' :-)
Have you thought about incorporating handfasting cords?  I know I'm a little biased as thats what I make and sell, but regardless of that, I think the cords always look fantastic in a natural setting, are a great way to have something totally personal, colour matched to exactly what you want, and as an extra tangible thing to take away from the day.
If you think its something you might be interested in and want any guidance on making your own, please give me a shout. And if you'd like me to make anything for you, please also give me a shout :-)
Feel free to look at my cords currently available at http://www.etsy.com/shop/bindingties and 'borrow' any ideas you like the look of Laughing

We are having a semi-music fest type wedding this fall. The official theme is vintage-rustic, but have a jam band as our band, accoustic guitar for the ceremony and an afterhours party in an on site dance hall. We are getting very excited!
