venue minimum.. augh

Just needed to vent.. our venue minimum is 120 people (they already lowered it for us from their normal 150 when we booked them).. we invited 154 total, and it looks like we may only come in at around 110.  Lots of "no"s that we weren't expecting to get.  I know I should just get over it and know that I am paying for the minimum regardless, but it's making me sick to my stomach!  Anyone else in the same boat?
 I haven't talked to my venue yet, I feel like I should ask if they can comp us something or discount the rate for the "empty" seats, but I don't want to be greedy either since we already have a lower minimum than their norm..

    I'm in the same boat. Our venue had a max of 200 and we guaranteed 175 because we invited 250 people. We are at about 140 now, lots more "no's" than expected. We got them to get the requirement down to 165 but still stinks. We are thinking of asking if the vendors can count as part of that since we would have paid 50% additional for their meals but if we're already paying for extra heads that aren't there we are hoping they'll agree to this. I feel you.

    man that sucks...and here when we booked our venue and made our guest list I was worried cuz we were inviting 160 and it only holds 185 max...and now less then a week from our RSVP date..we only at 94...but it will be at least 110-120 by wedding....hope ur venue can do something for ya

    I would definitely ask. The worst they can do is say no. And you never know, they might give you a break!

    We have a 100 minimum and we're at 88 right now. So yes, we even ended up inviting way more than I wanted (around 160ish?). There were WAY more declines than anticipated.

    We had a lot of... my vacation time ran out (with family events so totally understandable), my budget can't handle it, and I can't handle (health wise) the travel.

    I hear you... hoping we hit the minimum here.

    I have never heard of venues having a minimum... but I hope that everything works out in your favor!

    Thanks ladies.. glad to hear I'm not the only one!  We were starting to feel a bit sad about certain people declining, but I guess that is life!

    will they allow you to move that $ towards somthing else? Our venu had a minium but said we could use it on anything if we came up short (including to put it towards a bar or soda package or another appatizer). we almost booked a venue that had a person minium and decided not to book to try to avoid this problem...
    but see if they'll work with you?
