Your favorite appetizers??

So FH and I want to have a ton of fun mini appetizers for our cocktail hour.  I've had things before like grilled cheese with tomatoe soup shooter, fried mac and cheese, mini sliders...etc.  What are some of the most creative/unique or yummiest mini apps you guys have tasted?  I would love hearing everyones suggestions!

Re: Your favorite appetizers??

  • We had Italian themed things like stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella marinara, crostini with various toppings, chicken and beef saltimbocca roulades.

I personally love things like mini corn dogs, fried ravioli, or even a mashed potato bar. Yummy!
  • I love fatty, greasy, salty, decadent appetizers. You only eat a few so can afford the off-the-diet nutrition crash. I am thinking bacon, shrimp, cheese, avocado, duck, wow, I need to stop.
  • Mini muffalettas are always something I love to see
  • You girls are making me hugry!  But great suggestions.  What is a muffaletta?  I've never heard of that.

  • I looooooooove mini portabella caps stuffed with blue cheese chicken. Hhhhhhhmmmmm... Oh and stuffed olives. There a many many different kinds of those. Like they have jalapeno, blue cheese, garlic... But not all in the same olive.

    We had:

    Beef terriaki skewers with pineapple
    Chicken chasseur martinis
Macaroni and cheese spoons topped with fresh lobster
Tuna sashimi on sesame crackers with wasabi ailoli
Smoked Gouda and roasted tomato beggars purses
  • It's not anything new but I LOVE spanakopita! Every time I go to a wedding and see the tray being carried around I'm all over that!
  • My absolute fave is crabcakes, preferably with a sauce on the side.

For our NYE at home we did an appetizer dinner, I purchased pre-made meatballs, made them in pasta sauce with peppers, and had little Hawaiian style rolls for mini-meatball sliders.

I also like the old favorites like eggrolls and chicken or beef satay on a stick.
  • A muffaletta is an Italian meat and cheese sandwich with zesty olive salad served on a sesame seed French roll. It's also a big New Orleans thing.
  • This thread has been so helpful to me!  We're doing an afternoon light hors d'ouvres reception, and I was wondering what the favorite might be.

Personally, I'm echo the praise for tomato-soup-shooter-with-grilled-cheese, spanakopita, satay and appetizers that are mini versions decadent foods I wouldn't want to make a meal of but love in tasting form.

Oh, and caprese (fresh mozzarella, perfectly-ripe tomatoes and fresh basil) in any form.  Seriously, any form!  Skewers, as bruschetta, as a mini-salad ...

  • For our apps we had mini potstickers, these delicious sweet meatballs, bruschetta, and antipasto platter.

We also had a late night snack, which was a HUGE hit (my family are big drinkers and always need food :0) . We served mini sliders, fries, and mini grilled cheese.
