Wedding Invitations & Paper

Envelope issue

So we are ordering our invitations from Zazzle. Each invite comes with a plain white envelope from Zazzle but I SO don't want white envelopes. Our wedding is vintage inspired and our invites are old telegrams.

I originally wanted to buy parchment envelopes and put a wax seal on the inner envelope (I heard it's a pain in the butt to mail it if it's on the outside). But now I'm having problems!

1) I am having a terrible time finding parchment envelopes! I found ONE website that carries them but they don't have the outer envelope size in parchment. So we'd be able to get RSVP envelopes and invite envelopes, but then no outer. Our wedding is more casual than formal so I only need the outer envelope because of the wax seal...which brings me to my next problem.

2) I've heard that it's also more expensive to mail a letter with a wax seal. We'll have about 60 invites to send. Should I even do it? We want to have a wax seal because it fits with our theme but at this point I could easily do it on a reception thing like escort cards or favors.

SO ultimate question, do I skip the wax seal and just do RSVP and invite envelopes with no outer envelope?

Re: Envelope issue

  • If you do a wax seal definitely do it on the inner envelope. It might fall off the outer. I worked in a store doing custom wedding invites, and we did wax seals numerous times. They're really easy and make a statement! Yes, it will be more expensive to mail because there will be a bump in the envelope where the wax is so it will be considered "non machineable" by the post office. It's not a crazy amount more, but definitely more than regular postage. I would get one invite all finished with all components inside and use a wax seal, then take it to be weighed by the post office and they will tell you exactly how much postage you need. For envelopes, www.envelopments.com has plenty of parchment/linen feel envelopes. You'd have to locate a dealer near you to get them but I've worked with the company and they have great quality papers and a big selection. Other posters here have used cardsandpockets.com but I have never used them personally. It's probably worth checking though. Envelopemall.com might be good too! If its hard finding the right size envelopes you may have to use an outer envelope with a different texture and use just the inner with the seal and parchment. That will still keep a great vintage feel to your invites :) Hope this helps!
  • Has anyone ever used paperpresentation.com? That's where I found my envelopes. I was looking at the outer envelopes and they have one called "Classic Crest" the natural white color is lighter than the parchment natural white, but it might be better  than nothing. I think I will order the RSVP envelopes and the invite envelopes and then order a sample of the outer envelope, if the postage is too much or I don't like it then I haven't committed to ordering a bunch.

  • I am using Paper Presentation and LOVE their stuff! Everything was exactly as I wanted, and I did a lot of shopping around and it was the best quality/color etc. that we wanted. You can order samples too just to make sure!
