Exercise?

I just started school two weeks ago and I have not been working out as consistently. I am in pharmacy school and am in class until 4:30 everyday. I come home exhausted and don't workout! I don't like that I am not, but how do I make time for everything???

Re: Exercise?

  • A. Try working out before class- you are supposed to feel more energized if you work out in the morning.

    B. Try working out at home after a little relaxation. There are a lot of exercises you can do with a set of free weights.

  • Ditto PP.  Now that I have less time during the day, I pretty much have to work out in the morning to make time, and make sure my workouts on the weekends are longer/more intense to make up for it.  Occasionally I work out in the evening, but it's hard to find the energy and motivation.

  • What time do you all start class? I start early, so I am wondering how to get in a workout and then get ready for school.
  • I get in at 9:00, so I have to get up at 6:30 to get in a 45-minute workout.

  • I was just wondering the same thing last night! I have to wake up at 6:30 to get to class on time so there is no way I can do a work out before class, I'd have to get up at like 4. And then in the evening I just lack the motivation or time. Ugh...its so frustrating!

  • Beth - are you already showering in the morning?  Because you can do a shorter workout, and not need the extra 1.5 hours.  I shortened my morning routine, mostly by taking faster showers (which is easier for me after working out; when I first wake up I'm so tired that I take forever to shower).  I do cardio only in the mornings, so it's only 45 minutes, and do my crunches and weight lifting when I get home.

  • I exercise after I'm done, I find that I have a lot more energy if I workout after work rather than going home and not working out...you just have to learn to break the feeling that you don't have enough energy to workout at the end of your day.  I wish I could workout in the morning, but most days I have to go in at 5:30am to round on patients so its not much of an option. It can be done though!!!

  • Sara is right though - it's all about finding motivation, which is entirely possible and is just a roadblock we set up for ourselves.

  • I prefer working out in the morning, and I tried it out this summer when I was working. I start work at 9am (which is close to when I leave for school- I leave at 8:45 am for school) so I had to get up early to go work out.

I fit in an hour of cardio in the mornings and a quick shower/finishing getting ready and I was on my way. I LOVE it. It's hard to get up early in the mornings at first, but I found the habit easy to get into. I felt very productive, and had more energy (and a better mood!) for the rest of the day. I wasn't tired throughout the day, the way I normally would be.

I usually shower at night and my gym is about 30 minutes away so the driving alone adds up to an hour. I'm just gonna have to make myself go after class. I wish I could go in the mornings though.

  • Yeah, that does add a lot of extra.  I have an elliptical in my apartment, so that cuts down on the time considerably.  I know a few people who have gotten them off of Craig's List, maybe you could look into that?  But it's definitely not for everyone.

  • I am in the same boat!!! Class most of the day and then work part-time about 5 days a week.

I have just invested in a couple home DVD workouts, will see how those work, because I can get up about 1 hr earlier then do the DVD and then do my morning routine. My friend who just had a baby said 30 day shread kicks your butt but she is seeing results. and lots of people recommended Zummba and Jillian Michaels from Biggest Loser!

Who knows, but I will take any results I can get.....
  • I work out in the very late evening after work and class. I usually don't get done working out until 12:30am. For the most part the only reason I work out that late is because I dislike having my family up when I'm working out. It just makes me uncomfortable. Since I don't start work until noon and my classes start at 7pm, I just sleep in for a few hours.

I was originally trying to do P90x, but it was kicking my butt and the videos are just way too long so BF acquired a copy of Slim in 6 for me and I'm on my last week. Granted my diet has been sucking because I'm currently not able to do my own shopping and cooking, but hopefully that will change starting next month when we should be closing on the house. All the working out in the world won't really help unless your diet is a good one.

  • Having your gym so far away has to be difficult.
Their is a book, Bridal Boot Camp, that has a listing of exercise for whatever stage you are at, workout wise and by distance in months from your wedding, with workout plans for at the gym or at home. It also has a diet plan in it. My boyfriend's sister and I bought it lol.
Personally, I get up at 4:30 two to three mornings a week to do strength training and a short run. It is early but it pays off. Good luck!
