B&M Monday

We went out to the lake yesterday with a big group of Daniel's friends even though I had worked the night before. I decided to take a quick nap on the boat while they were hanging out on the other side of the little island, but I ended up sleeping the WHOLE day! I feel like such a loser, but I just couldn't wake up! Daniel said that his friends were asking where I was and why I went if I was going to sleep the whole time. Umm cause it's partly my boat and I can go out on it whenever I want? I'm still pretty embarassed though. Undecided

I thought you were going to say you got sunburnt bad!! Hey you worked the night before-not your fault! :-)

My B&M is I feel like I am the only one who has to go into work today...on a plus at least freeways are not traffic-y! :)

So Sat night I emailed the girl doing my invites to send me a tracking number or something. No response (she is very quick to respond to emails).Last night I wrote her another one saying I need them this week and if I don't get them I want a refund, and that it has been an inconvience on my part since she said in March when I first wrote her that they will be sent and I would have them at the beginning of May. Here it is June and I don't have them.  (I wanted to send them out last week while I was on vacation). She quickly responds telling me to not be hostle...that I need to be patient because she had to redo them because they got rained on (and how is that my fault?) so she only pocketed 20.00. She also told me that they were mailed Saturday. I'm sorry but every week I emailed you, you said the next day they would be mailed. Last day I talked to you was Sunday the 22...and you promised they would be mailed the 23rd...Saturday was NOT the 23rd. Anyways since they are hand made I get no refunds. All I gotta say is that I better get them or I will demand a refund! No IFs ands or buts!

Sorry so long-had to vent :(

Oh I did get a bad sunburn on my left leg! LOL! Luckily I had my top covered cause it was so bright.

I'm sorry you're working today BL!

Meghan- I would still ask for a refund if you don't get them soon even if they are hand made. If you have to, you can go through paypal to get your money back. They are really good about refunding your money if you don't get what you paid for when you were supposed to.
ETA: Assuming you used Etsy. I can't remember where you got them from.

That's what one of the girls on the August boards told me about paypal. I'll wait and see at the end of the week. Mail is a little off because of today.

I hope it's not blistery red Angela! I hate sunburns behind the knees...OUCH!

Texan-I thought you were gong to say you got sunburned too! lol

Meghan-I agree, it's not your fault the invites got rained on. Why do you care how much profit she made? She shouldn't have gotten them rained on...I think she probably could have been quicker about it.

Bobbileigh- Cry is all I can say. My cousin had to go to school today. Haha. But seriously..who makes Memorial Day their snow day? That just sucks.

All my B&Ms are apartment related.

I seriously don't think they did anything but put new carpet in. The lady told me to be thorough when I left with the move in inventory...I don't think she's very happy about all that I wrote down.
Part of the handle is missing off the dishwasher, the bottom of the cabinet under the sink is warped (I think water leak or something), The baseboards under that cabinet are crumbling (I think), and the countertop above that cabinet is missing a chunk of it's underside, and another part is about to fall off.  Oh, and the air conditioner always runs it won't turn off, it just keeps getting colder and the bathtub won't hold water.
I'm pretty disappointed. I think they spent more time trying to make it pretty...but at least nothing is unusable...

Thanks ladies its really not too bad as it is DEAD so I can get caught up on a lot of things.

Crash- it is best to be overly cautious on those move in sheets.  My first apartment I made the mistake of not noting every.single.little.thing like paint chips and small little dents and got a ridiculous bill when I moved out.

I sat by the pool and read for about an hour and a half with spf 30 on and still got pretty burnt :(

Yea, I wrote down everything...and then I took pictures for my records.

Fi didn't fill out the one for his apartment...so I can only imagine what kind of bill he's going to get from them. :(

Last year we were SO excited to move into some apartments right across the street from us.  They were less expensive, but also 10 years older, and they were owned by the same management company so we assumed good things.  I went in to do the move-in inventory and it was disgusting.  Water running down the walls out of the AC vents, a microwave that looked like someone had punched it and broken it apartment, 1970s gold candleabra fixtures, a hole in the bathtube, magenta paint splatters on some walls, black handprints on other walls, and appliances that were out of the 70s at best.  When I went to the office in tears the lady asked me what I expected from an older apartment.  I had never wanted to slap someone so hard in my life.  Just because the apartment exterior is old does NOT mean you let the inside go to shambles.  I expect the apartment to have its problems, but that didn't mean negligence in repairing water damage and broken appliances.  She wasn't happy with the list of things I brought her either.  She promised to do them that day and didn't, so we cancelled our lease.   I hope your experience turns out MUCH better than ours!

I'm working today until 5 or 6pm depending on how much their is to do.  I'd rather be at home sleeping.  Soooo tired....but I am thankful for the additional money in the wedding fund, so I shouldn't complain too much.

Well, I think it's just all compacted by the fact that they couldn't get the previous tenant to move out so we had to push back a week. Which meant FI was going to be 3 days over his 30 day notice and they decided they were going to bill him for the extra 3 days, and when FI asked if he could just have some extra time to clean it they said no. Our move in day was Saturday and they wanted his keys to the old apartment on Saturday.
Well, They didn't get the keys until Sunday when they opened. Oh well. I think the biggest regret I have is staying at this complex. We probably could have gotten an apartment that was just as nice for cheaper..and maybe had competent office people.

Crash- That is great that you took pictures.  I was going to suggest that as I was reading your posts!

And I also thought you were going to say you got burnt, Angela.

How is it that when we have friends over, we provide the food but when we go over to their house, we also provide and cook the food?  How does that make sense?  Also we are supposed to have 1 person come over on Friday, maybe 2, and now it's looking like possibly 7.

This.  We feel like this as well, but we don't really know where else to go at the moment. We live in The Village, so to get anything cheaper in Dallas means moving in to a less-than-desirable neighborhood for the most part.  We could buy a small house or decent condo at this point and have lower monthly payments but we don't have the money to put down...which then makes me want to elope so we DO have the money to put down, LOL.  We could move to Irving or Richardson or Plano but FI rides the rail and has been spoiled by a 15 minute commute to work, plus that means increased gas money for me.  I'm just really curious how all these new people in our complex are affording $700 one bedrooms and almost $1000 two bedrooms when their cars are falling apart and they are always home......

I hope your new place works out a lot better for you guys!

THIS.  I'm glad you went through PayPal so you can hopefully get your money back if they don't arrive STAT.  You have been so patient with her.  She is the one who got them rained on (its not like it was an accident that happened at the post office or something), and that was her mistake to correct in a timely fashion.  When you have a due date on an item like that and something happens to it, that means you stay up all night until its done or do whatever you need to do to make it right.  It seems like she's taken her own sweet time to do everything when it's convenient for her, and that really sucks. :(  I'm sorry you are still dealing with this situation but I hope you get this in the mail by midweek.

If you don't get them soon, maybe we could have a G2G and help you assemble invitations?  My FIL's will be in this weekend so I'm of no help then, but I'd be happy to help you get these cranked out after that  if it comes down to it!  I'm sure other ladies would be willing to pitch in too, so don't stress too much yet (easier said than done, right?).  Everything will fall into place.!

Sorry to hear about the invitations/apartment troubles.

Meghan -- I had trouble with my invitation designer too, so I can feel your pain. It was frustrating to have such an important part (the inviting people part!) go wrong. We ended up getting our first invitations in the mail at the six week mark -- and we had a majority of our guest list OOT, so that was definitely later than I'd wanted. I hope she gets them to you soon!

My only B&M -- I'm so tired that we haven't done a thing on our long weekend! We had lots of great ideas --- hosting a cookout, going to see Hangover II, etc --- but all we've done is sit inside and watch TV and nap. Oh, and write TY notes (me) -- I feel like I'll never be finished with those.

Angelsong, I live right next to the Walnut Hill Dart station and pay around $850 (plus or minus, depending on utilities) for a 2-bedroom if you guys are looking for something else.  I do like the Village neighborhood, though.

Crash, I hate that about apartments.  I got lucky with this place -- the staff is all competent and nice and they're quick to fix any problems.  Re: the school on Memorial Day comment: to be honest, I'd almost rather go to school today and end this Friday than have one more day of finals next Monday (and I saw someone on TN saying her district isn't done until 6/10!  Ugh!).  The upside to it is I get an extra weekend of building access before I have to turn in my badge.  (saaaad face!)

My B&M is that I ordered a stamp from Vistaprint for return addresses, but ordered the small one (the one that said, "Great for Return Addresses!") and when I got it, it is so small one cannot read the tiny print.  Excellent.  So I either have to handwrite the return address on nearly 200 STDs or buy some labels.  I just wish I hadn't put this off so long... save-the-dates probably should have gone out last month but I wanted to wait until after school was out to avoid any side-eyes from inviting some of my coworkers but not others.

In general you can usually drive through an apartment complex and tell what kind of clientel they have by looking at the cars.   Even if they are older, people who care about their things still take good care of them.   I am a complete fan of running cars into the ground before buying a new one, so in no way can you tell by the age of the cars, but generally just by how people take care of them.  We went from having nice cars that were well taken care of in our apartment complex to having beatup cars that you can tell no one cares about at all with broken windows with plastic wrap taped up in it and some of the cars literally have bullet holes (not kidding).  Even if you can't afford a lot or choose not to spend excess money on things you don't need, you can still take care of your things.  I prefer to live around people who take care of their things and respect everyone's space.

And yes and no on the $700 for a 520 sq ft apt being "cheap."  It depends on which part of Dallas you live in and how many sq ft you get.  In the Village, we have some of the lesser expensive apartments.  Other complexes go up to $1400 for a one bedroom.  In Dallas as a whole, I would disagree that $700 is on the cheaper end though.  My friend lived in an apartment near the Addison area that was $850 for a HUGE 2 bedroom...1 bedrooms were $550.

I'm not saying that it's wrong to want to live where people take care of their things. I was saying that the condition of someone's car =/= Chapter 8 assistance. That's all.
And I should've said that $700 is average. That was the range I saw when I was in college in Dallas a few years ago.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: B&M Monday : I agree with you. :)  I don't believe LPC does any section 8 housing, but I actually didn't say anything about section 8.  I think someone else commented on my original post and made that statement.

Is 700 for a one bedroom seriously average?  I pay 635 for a 2bd/2ba.  Its not the nicest things ever but we have been here for about 9 months and I havent really had any major issues.  Especially considering I was paying 615 for a 1bd/1ba in Omaha in what I would consider to be a comparible neighborhood and complex.

Yeah, I pay 710 for 2/2 and it's in Addison, but definitely one of the older complex. I don't think we have Section 8 here, but there's plenty of troublemakers without it. The entire building across the parking lot from me was evicted this past month, but I think they put more money into their pimped out cars than into their housing situation. Add on that they damaged all of the cars by my building with their horsing around, and there were plenty of complaints on top of them not paying rent.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

I still think $700 is on the higher end of average, especially for a 31-year-old apartment complex.  New apartments, however, definitely go for at least that much.  It all depends on the neighborhood, how old the complex is, the upkeep, amenities, etc.

Shoot, $635 for a 2b/db??? Where do you live and when can I move there?! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />  I don't need a super nice place either.  As long as everything usually works, people are nice and not shady, etc I'm good to go!
