  • I was definitely an (a).  Until you told me it was a dog, I thought it was some sort of pillow.
  • I see a dog, but I grew up with fuzzy peen dogs. So I know I am late to the party, but omg I hope everything works out for Andra. I am rooting for her- I want to cry for her. Go sweet E team! We should save the link to that thread forever for when we get called mean married old hags.

  • Hi ladies, don't mean to hijack this post or anything... but I just finished catching up on everything on my post. I just wanted to say thanks for the advice, and I'll be doing my best tonight. Don't worry about me, it'll all be ok one way or another!

I have been keeping up with the furry peen jokes, and you ladies are pretty funny! I'll try to get an avatar or sig picture asap :)

  • Nikki I'm just hoping (again) that she actually talks to her FI. It's not going to be easy.

Andra, it's completely not hijacking - we call it threadjacking around here.  :-P  No seriously, please keep updating - we want to be kept in the loop here, we're concerned about you and hoping everything works out for the best for you!

  • hookers. running question. I am going to sign up to do a 5k in May and its my first one ever. H tells me that I need to build up my endurance and while running it on the treadmill is great, I can diversify my cardio so I don't burn myself out on the treadmill. Do y'all agree with that?

I think eventually I want to be able to run for about 40-50 minutes straight at a good pace to keep me in line for a time of under 30 minutes for the race.

Thanks everyone, I promise to keep you updated.

I should be back on here in a couple of hours to let you all know how it went.

I'm going to go take a shower and clean up the apartment a bit- cleaning always helps me sort through my thoughts a bit.

Thanks again for everything, and to correct myself... sorry for the THREADjacking! lol :P

I agree with that.  I made the mistake of not cross-training when I trained for a half-marathon last year, and while the half went fine, I ended up rolling my ankle and spending like 3 months in physically therapy shortly after.  The PT said if I'd been cross-training all along, my recovery would've been faster because I wouldn'tve had weakness in certain muscles.

  • I would cross-train with weights not necessarily vary my cardio. Cross-training helps your other muscles keep up with your developing running muscles.

  • Cross-train. For sure. In XC in high school we did lifting, running (you know, in cross-country ;p) and then some type of more stationary exercises like abs, push ups, step ups, etc.
  • Gotcha. I really am struggling to find a good balance between lifting and cardio. I find that I dive completely into one and forget about the other. I must come up with a good way to balance them all.

MK there is a chance I might be spending the night in Alexandria for work, and might be requesting your presence at my hotel's bar. :)

  • I agree with MK.  You can cross-train with strength training.  Or maybe do the recumbent bike or rowing for some other cardio.  I think that should be in addition running 2-3 times per week.  You could also just do some walking for a more varied form of exercise.  Like walking the dog.

Also, if you want to run a 30 minute 5k, try training at your necessary pace.  Running 40-50 minutes will definitely do well to keep up endurance.
  • Rosie you better. or else I'll be offended. :-)

Create a schedule. Run Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and long run on Sunday. Cross train on Tuesday & Thursday, or Thursday & Saturday, with a rest day.
