  • You can do both Angel. It's fancy like that : p haha. But yeah, Skype is pretty cool. In addition to video chatting or just IMing, you can set up a phone number so that people can call your compuer from their phone. H has a number local to me so I can call him.

Steffi - it's very possible that he did that for me - I just don't remember. I do remember being pissed because they came out with those flavored medicines right when I was "too old" to get them.

I didn't know you could do the local number thing, that's cool!

There were no flavored medicines when I was a kid, either. Sadly. LOL My current doc is great and has taken care of both my recurrent strep and recurrent UTIs with long courses of antibiotics. He's a great doc.

  • Yeah, it's been a life saver. Back when we had a home phone it meant I could call him and not be charged up the wazoo for it. Now that I have T Mobile he is in my fav five so I can talk to him as much as I want.
  • How's the Visa process coming? When can you move?
    image
  • Well, right now I've finished the online portion of the application, but haven't submitted it yet as I need to pay the $1300 at the same time and we won't have that for another week or two. In the meantime we will finish gathering the documents.

On the applicaiton it asks for a date of travel, so we put in August 22nd. I have no idea if that's going to happen or not.
  • I think I'm going to have to call the doctor tomorrow about this throat pain... I don't want to because I'm uninsured, but if I do have strep, I need to get meds. I have so much going on this week that I can't miss, including my friend's wedding on Saturday.

  • Wow, that's a lot of money - I had no idea that it was that expensive!

I hope things go smoothly for you and you get to travel next month. Are you going to ship your belongings over? Or sell most everything and replace it after you move?

(or am I being terribly nosey?)

<div>Try going to the Minute Clinic. It's not quite as expensive as a doctors visit, at least in my area. </div><div>
</div><div>I will warn you that if the strep is in the very early stages it's very possible the test won't detect it. </div>
  • No, you're not being terribly nosy Steffi.

I actually don't have too many possessions. Most of it is just general junk. I will be able to bring the majority of my stuff over by just paying for an extra suitcase. The few things I won't be able to fit the first time I'll leave with my parents and just bring over next time I come visit. Any big furniture I have was either hand-me-down or purchased at Goodwill, so not really worth shipping over. My plan is to have a garage sale and donate anything left to Goodwill.

To echo Poke, the test is only right about half the time. There's two - one they do in office and one they send off. The one they send off is more accurate, but takes a week, and is $$$$. By the time it comes back you're either dead of strep or cured by the antibiotics or over whatever else was causing the sore throat.

    Or, so I remember.

  • I definitely can't pay for a throat culture. I've had this pain since Friday, so I feel like if I have strep, it would be picked up. I do have a cough today, so I'm hoping that's a sign that the throat pain is going away and other cold symptoms are coming. I hate, hate, hate sore throats.. I'd rather have almost anything else.

You must furniture shop like I do. LOL I love the ecclectic look.

I have nicer furniture now that I purchased at the estate auction of my best friend. It poured snow the day of the auction and I got the pieces from the house we shared (she owned it, I rented the attic apartment from her that was furnished) for a song and a dance.
Since we're moving back to our house we own that we're renovating I'm swapping out a lot of my furniture with my mother and aunt for the heirloom furniture of my grandmother's since I now have the larger house of the family.

If you end up going ask for Liquid Lidocaine. It's wonderful for sore throats.

My doctor prescribed some for me last year when I had something going on - maybe the silent migraine/pneumonia/food poisoning phase. I don't remember, but I can't handle a sore throat, and it numbs things really well for several hours.

And, it tastes like bubble gum.

  • Actually, since I dont' have my own place I just never wanted to spend a bunch of money on furniture. I've helped H pick some really nice furniture in his flat, I'm so excited to move in.

I've always rented. DH has owned the house since before we met, but it's been in a state of renovation and we haven't had the money to finish it.

And, with all of the cats in the house I don't think spending money on furniture is wise. The heirloom dining room set will be away from the cats, everything else is fair game to their claws. Once all of these pass on I have no intention of having more indoor animals.

  • haha, I am looking forward to not having any animals for a little while. But then I want a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

I'm just not a dog person.

Sometimes I wish we had no animals, but it is what it is. Three of the cats will probably pass in the next couple of years, leaving us with 3 young, lazy males that get along. That will be a lot more manageable than the madhouse I have now. But, they're a lot of company and I love them all.

Even the one who stole part of my dinner while I was eating tonight.

  • I would prefer not to have any animals when FI and I move in together, but we'll have Tucker. I love him, but adjusting to life in a small apartment will be hard enough without a rambunctious dog, haha.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • Yeah, it will be really nice not dealing with animals for a while. The good thing about having my own dog will be that I am in control of his training. My parents suck and training animals. They start out trying to do something, but get lazy and stop doing it. So they're not very well behaved. Well, the boxer is - but those are just overgrown teddy bears anyways.
  • My two cats are pretty well behaved. The other 5 are not. Two are on the dining room table asleep, one counter surfs. :(

Training is very important. My horses have very nice manners, much better than my cats.
    image
  • My dog Max is horribly behaved... hence why he's bitten me twice in the last 2 months. Keeley is well behaved when dealing with the family, but will bite strangers out of fear, so we have to keep her in her crate when we have company. We did not win the behavior lottery with those two, that's for sure lol.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • I do try with them, and they generally behave for me. But it's really hard to train a dog properly when everyone in the house just won't do it. You kind of need to all make the efford.
  • Poke, that's the problem with our dogs... Max is never disciplined by anyone besides my dad or me.

Ok ladies, I'm off to bed. I don't have to set an alarm for tomorrow so I'm hoping I sleep fairly late and that a nice, long rest will go a long way towards me getting better. Night!
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • Yeah, my dog Jake has never bitten anyone until my ILs were here. He went for my BIL and bit my MIL on the nose. Not seriously hard, but enough to make her not want to be near him again. I think he was upset at all the confusion. I had my MIL, BIL, SIL and her H, BFF, and former friend in the house for the wedding. Plus we had a bunch of people in and out and he spent a lot of time in his crate.
  • Yes, it does require consistent handling. I'm not a dog trainer, but for horses I'm a fan of clicker training. That doesn't require the same consistent handling, if the animal knows one person as the trainer, but the good behavior spills over to everyone that handles them. Anyone can take a pan of food into my horse's pen and they won't eat until they're told to or until the human is outside the gate. Both of my horses were food agressive when I got them.

Training cats is like nailing jello to the wall. I've admitted defeat.

  • Goonight Angel! I really hope you feel better soon.
  • Night Angel.

Bed is sounding tempting for a few hours...

  • It is a lot harder to train a cat. I've tried. It doesn't work. At least they are pretty much naturally potty trained.

No, it doesn't work. I have one that is leash trained. He's my second leash trained cat in my life time. Otherwise the cats do as they please and we just put up with it. LOL
