When I was a freshman in college I went to visit another school with my friend. We went out to some parties and crashed at her male neighbors apartment that night. One of the roommates was out of town, so the two of us girls slept in his twin bed. This was like 2007 and I guess everyone didn't have their own computer, so the one roommate came into the room when we were going to bed to use the computer.
He told us he would turn out the lights when he left to go to bed, and we were tired so we just went to sleep. I woke up at some point (not sure how much later) and he was kneeling RIGHT NEXT to the bed watching me/us in the dark. I hurried up and closed my eyes because it freaked me out. I kept trying to wake up my friend so that he would hopefully leave. No idea WHAT woke me up but if freaked me the eff out.

When I lived in the dorms at college my roommate and I had bunk beds to give ourselves more space. We were both lying on our bunkbeds watching TV when a tennis shoes in the middle of the room started rocking back and forth and flipped over and then back over again. I was so shocked I was speechless and my roommate goes 'holy shiiiit did you just see that shoe?' and I knew that she had seen it too. There is zero explaination for that one.

My BF at the time and I were lying on that same bunk bed taking pictures with my camera phone a few days later. In one of the picture there is a very apparent dark black face. I have never showed that picture to anyone who didn't get creeped out by it. I lost that phone a long time ago though :(

Haha, guess I should have said zero non-paranormal excuse. We definitely think there was a ghost in that room. And it absolutely could have been your ghost from the future..good thing I told you to do it!

  • I lived in a converted church my sophomore year of college.  Several years prior, a girl had fallen out of our window and impaled herself on the fence that was directly below.  I woke up on more than one occasion to someone standing in our room, while my roommate was sleeping in her bed.

  • Background - This is how my dorm was set up when I was a freshman.  We had two doors to each room - one that lead directly outside (like a motel) and one that lead to a shared bathroom for 8 rooms.  The interior of the "quad" wasn't accessible from the outside.  I also had a double to myself since my roommate left and her spot was never filled.

I got back late from a party.  Like so late that I was no longer even drunk, but I was exhausted (I took a university bus back home, but I had to go around the entire loop because it only went in one direction).  I got ready for bed and passed out.  The next morning, my mom was calling me at some ungodly hour, like 9 am on a Saturday. The nerve!  As I was listening to her voicemail (I clearly was not up for talking), I hear snoring and I notice that there is a human underneath the covers on my spare bed. I walked over, lifted the blanket off his face, and I had NO idea who this guy was.  He woke up and was like "Amanda said it was okay to sleep here."  Amanda, my quad-mate, was a nice girl, but we were just friendly as best, and she never would have okay-ed that.  I made him leave, but not after he started asking me where his hat was.  DUDE I HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE HOW YOU GOT HERE, OR WHERE YOUR HAT IS.

Later, I found out that this guy told "Amanda" that he did in fact know me (lies) and decided to crash in my room.  What actually happened is that he probably walked out of the wrong side of the bathroom and I had left my door unlocked or open, so he passed out in theopen bed.  Creep.

Here's a good story for you (really long) -

My mom and stepdad moved in February, but the home they moved from most definitely had some crazy things happening that are hard to explain. As follows in semi-random order :

A few nights after moving in, my sister (then just turned 7) claimed she saw a man walking at that top of the stairs that led to the bedrooms. Apparently he had a "tall black hat on".

My mom was in bed one night in the attic which had been converted to a bedroom. She said she heard "mom" whispered in her ear.

My mom also heard "what are you doing" when she went to the bathroom in the middle of the night. She thought it was my sister and her friend playing a joke and after pulling back the curtain of the shower, realized nobody was there.

Dogs used to stare at corners and bark/growl/have hair stand up endlessly at the dining room.

When my other sister was about 3 (she's now almost 6), she would often play with her toys in our family room. One day when the tv was off, she flipped out saying a man was "in the tv". For months, she wouldn't play in there alone unless the tv and computer were covered with towels. When she was a baby, we would hear two voices over the monitors - usually a man who sounded like he was scolding a child and a little girl crying.

I slept with the lights on in my room until I moved out, because I always felt like someone was watching me. I was 20 when I moved out.

My sister (the one who was 7 when moving in) was really annoying the crap out of everyone when for practically a week straight she was humming the Jeopardy tune that got stuck in her head. My mom was getting ready in the bathroom when nobody else was home. No windows/doors open. No electronics on. She said she heard whistling of the tune outside the bathroom door (which was open).

Things constantly went missing and would show up in random places weeks later.

My cousin was visiting one day and my mom and I were telling her of recent weird events and how we were pretty convinced the place was haunted. We had these fake trees/plants lining the stairs that led to the living room. In the middle of our stories, the trees moved in a way that they would if you ran your hand across some bushes outside. No windows open, no vent anywhere near by. We all saw it and it's one of the creepiest things that happened to me there.

I was home alone one morning eating breakfast before my college class. A toy went off and then fell from the bookshelf it was on. I left my cereal on the desk where I was sitting and promptly left, mid-chew.

Toys went off all the time, actually. Even if the switches were off and they hadn't been played with for days.

My brother was adopted when he was about 2. He had been in our home since 7 months old. 2 weeks before his adoption, he was diagnosed with Autism. When he was a baby, his eyes would track things at the ceiling. The fact that he has Autism will come into play very shortly with these stories.

My stepdad used to fall asleep on the couch in the family room a lot. The family room, living room, and office were on the same floor, connected by a large fireplace in the middle. You could walk around the fireplace in a circle to get to each room. One night, he was resting on the couch and said he saw a faint image of a small girl in a dress running around the fireplace. According to him, she was probably 5 or 6. My stepdad claims he doesn't believe in ghosts, but it still raises every hair on his body when he tells this story.

Here's where it gets interesting with my brother, P. He turns 7 this summer. Right up until they moved, from the time he could walk, he would run around our fireplace and look over his shoulder and laugh and giggle. He did this a lot. I'd say at least daily. We attributed it to his Autism, until my stepdad experienced above story years after P started doing this. So weird.

P would scream and cry at night when they put him to bed. He would beat on his bedroom door and flip out when it was bedtime. He was usually fine at nap time.

With his Autism, he is able to communicate, but wouldn't initiate conversations for a long time. He started telling my parents weird things, without ever being prompted. One of the first things he said was "the who who's are in here (his room)". Over several weeks, he would make other comments like, "the who who's are angry" and "they knock on the walls". Sometimes he would say they are funny other times they would be scary. We can't figure out why he called them this. The only thing we can think of is that maybe they said "you whoo" to him. In the past year or two, P's rages from his Autism intensified. He told us that the "who who's" don't like it when he's yelling. He said they get mad and tell him "Stop or No". One night before bed, P told my parents that they come out at "9 o clock". P doesn't know how to tell time or even understand what a clock is. One day, before they moved I was visiting and we were standing in the kitchen. P got this terrified, blank stare as he was looking in the front hall and said the "who who is right there".

Fast forward a bit - the day they moved to their new home, P walked through the house and the first thing he said was "No who who's here". About a month ago, he went to a new behaviorist. The first thing he did was point to a corner and said "there's a who who". The Dr later told my mom that he's the second or third small child to point to the corner and tell him someone was there.

I'm probably leaving out a bunch of stories, but this hasn't gotten too long anyway.

  • I don't think I believe in ghosts, but Melmac, your stories kind of have me convinced your house was haunted.
  • edited July 2012
Peek, that is really creepy. What would you do?

Katniss, I probably would have been terrified to sleep in there again lol.

Melmac, the last part about the behaviorist really got me. I also think it was interesting how P called them 'who whos' or whatever.

I have a ton of ghost stories that involve me, my grandmother, or my one best friend. I whole heartedly believe in the paranormal. I had a psychic tell me once that I was a 'crystal child' or something, which means I am more perceptive to that kind of thing. I'm sure it was BS, but I do feel that way.

When I was about 13 or so I woke up and saw someone standing in the open doorway of my bedroom. It looked like my mom because of the long blonde hair so I called out to my mom. They kept standing there and then turned around and walked away. I was really confused why she would do that so I ran after her and my parents' bedroom door was shut. I went in and my mom was sound asleep, so I woke her up because I thought someone must have been in the house. My dad searched everywhere and nothing was out of place, all doors and windows were shut/locked. I started describing the 'woman' to my mom and said I thought it was her because of the blonde hair. She got really freaked out and told my that my uncle who was murdered (when he was 18, before I was born) had long blonde hair because it was the 70s. The kicker, she was dreaming about him when I woke her up.

  • I am officially freaked out. In a bad way.
  • Katniss and Jaycee - what I've learned over the years is that most people either believe in the paranormal or they don't and the ones that do have usually experienced something that is hard to explain logically. There's no way you could've stayed a week in their former home without walking out a believer. BF doesn't believe in ghosts, but says that house creeped him out. I get nauseous thinking of the things that happened there. I'm actually a little freaked out just sitting here at work. I used to sprint as fast as I could to my room when I'd come home late at night.

  • Wow melmac those stories are creepy.

I was at a party and they were using the ouija board.  I was only watching but a girl's name came up on the board and the three people controlling the board, asked it if it knew anyone in the room.  My name came up.  So I starting asking it questions ( my hands never touched the board at all) and the name was of my mother's friends daughter who died at 6 of cancer.  I was asking it questions that no one in the room would know the answer to and all of the questions were answered correctly.

I almost wish I had a more interesting paranormal experience I don't know if the above counts.

    Anniversary

  • I should also add to my story that my bedroom - the one I felt so uneasy in, is the room that P eventually moved to.
    image
  • Danser, I definitely think that counts. Very freaky. I messed around with Ouija boards when I was younger but nothing ever happened. My mom flipped her shiiiit when I told her that though and said to never ever use them because they are a direct link to the devil. It was a little dramatic, but I still choose to stay away.

  • Mel - the stories about P gave me goosebumps... especially the last one. I definitely believe in the paranormal.

My high school/college boyfriend's house was haunted. I never saw anything, but a few things happened when I was there. I was in the living room one day, reading a magazine, and he came walking back from the kitchen and stopped. When he finally came into the living room, he said that he stopped because he saw the old woman ghost watching me in the living room.

His mom was home alone one night (his dad was bringing my bf & I back from college) and she said she "felt" someone walk into the room. She looked up & the woman was standing at the end of the bed. She yelled "who are you?" and the woman stepped back & disappeared into the wall. When she told us the story, and showed us where it was in the wall, his dad showed us where you could feel the seams, because it used to be a doorway that was closed up to make the bedroom.

My childhood best friend's grandmother lived like three houses down from my bf. Her house was ridiculously haunted as well. When they bought it (back in the 70s), they had to completely renovate it, including installing electric and plumbing, because it had never been renovated from it's original building in the 1800s. There was a man with a top hat who would stand in the bathroom & look at the toilet. There was a girl who would show up in the upstairs window (I still always look for her face when I drive by). There were lots of mists & stuff. When one of the daughters would come to stay, there would be a terrible odor in her room - she HATED the house, never lived there, and hated staying. Apparently the house felt the same way.

  • Jaycee, danser, and Bri - you guys all have some really creepy stories, too. I get why some people are skeptical, but then again I don't when there are soo many stories that can't be explained in a rational manner. Sometimes when ghost stories are brought up, I tease BF that if I die before him, I'll come back and haunt him a little to finally make him a believer. Surprised

What do you guys think about orbs? A lot of people will say that all orbs are just dust particles or reflection of light. While I'm sure this is true in many cases, I don't think it's true for all spots. We always had orbs showing up in pictures at that house.

  • Interesting you bring up orbs melmac.  BF & I did a night ghost tour of Williamsburg about 2 years ago.  So it was night and completely dark and I took some pictures of the building and houses they said were haunted.  There are these small light round things in all of the pictures I took from that tour with my digital camera. I couldn't come up with an explanation, I thought may be it was the way the flash reflected off the glass windows or something but where they were in most pictures didn't make any sense.

Yeah, orbs are weird. Flash or no flash, they would still show up in our pictures. Even more odd is that a lot of the times they would be "on" one of us or very nearby.

  • Melmac- those stories are super creepy, my hair is on end in my office!

I knew when my grandparents, my mom parents specifically, were going to die. They passed away 10 and 8 years ago and each morning I woke up and I just knew they were going to pass away.

The day my grandmother passed, I woke up knowing she wouldn't make it through the day, but I dismissed the thought, she was in hospital, but had been in and out for various issues for the past 5 years. As the morning passed the urge to go to her in the hospital got so stong that I left work and called my mom. She had just left the hospital, told me that grandma was fine but could go visit if I wanted. I stopped at home to get my sister and went to the hospital. I kept telling repeating in my head, 'Please hold on, I'm on my way, I love you.' When my sister and I got there my mom greeted us in the hall, my Grandmother passed away as we were pulling to the parking lot.

My Grandfather had shown no signs of illness before he passed at home in his sleep. The day before he died I got that same feeling, but tried to reason with myself- he's healthy, you just saw him last week and he's fine! But the urge got stronger, so I called him just to say hi, we talked baseball, he gave me a hard time about going back to school soon ( I had dropped out of college and he knew I needed to go back) and we said I love you's. I felt at peace, but the feeling was still there. The next morning my mom called and before she could get the words out I told her "Mom, its ok, I know Papa has passed."

    That's my bizarre story.

Guys, I officially hate all of you. I'm sitting in the office freaking out. I have goosebumps right now.

The weirdest thing to happen was when I was probably 6 or 7 years old. I was sitting in my bedroom at our old house in PA. In my room I had slaves line the wall continuously for three walls. One day I was sitting in my bed, my door that had been closed inched open and all of the shelves fell off the walls all at once.

My mom was so mad at me and was conviced that I had caused them all to fall, even though all I had been doing was laying on my bed playing Pokemon. :(

ETA: SHELVES not slaves. But I had plenty of those too.
  • Melmac your stories are creepy!

My father's old house was haunted. You could always hear the sounds of kids laughing and almost like they were playing hop scotch or jump rope. Every once and a while you would see these weird black shadows.

When I was 17 my father had a severe heart attack (40 yrs old) while on a business trip in MI. His wife at the time flew there to be with him through his surgery and recovery. I biked over to his house to get the mail and mow the lawn. When I walked in the house it was completely flooded from the second story down to the basement. Later found out the water from the bath tub was turned on and kept running. No one else lived there, no sign of entry.

I also think there is something going on in our house. It is really old with the old lime stone basement walls. Maggie is super jumpy and the slightest movement/sounds she hears she freaks out. She will randomly sit in the kitchen entryway and bark. I will get up, turn the lights on, and see nothing there, but she will stay and growl/bark.

A few months back I thought someone was in our house. FI asked me if I went up in the attic (there is nothing up there), I asked why and he told me the door looks like it was been open and the bathroom smelled like the attic (previous owners made access through the bathroom for some odd reason). The next morning while I was getting ready Maggie was freaking out again, stairing at the attic door. I yelled at her to go lay down and proceeded to get ready, the next thing I heard was the sound of foot steps above my head. I grabbed my makeup bag and dashed out the door. Later that night FI checked every window of every floor and all were locked, he went up there and didn't notice any thing funny.

Me too. haha. I can't say the ghosts were ever mean or angry that we were aware of. P, obviously thought so, but I'd think that too if they yelled at me. It's still so creepy though. We always joked that they probably watched us in the shower or something. I'm actually really afraid of the paranormal. It freaks me out more than like serial killers or other equally terrible people. Slightly irrational, but I can't help it.

  • Ummm I'm kind of afraid to go home now, you guys! Creepy.

I don't have any paranormal stories, but I have one kind of similar to Katniss' that I briefly told when it happened. One weekend my parents were visiting H (FI at the time) and me, and it turns out my dad was the last one in and didn't lock the door. In the middle of the night, I hear a bunch of doors opening and shutting, hear my parents talking in the next room, and then our bedroom door opens. For a split second I thought it was my dad sleepwalking, but then when my eyes adjusted I realized this was NOT my dad, and it was NOT anyone I knew. And he was naked and wrapped up in the blanket he stole from my parents' bed.

It was the guy that lived below us, drunker than a skunk. We immediately tried to get him out of our apartment before he peed/puked on our stuff, but he was totally convinced that he lived there. Finally when he realized he didn't live there, and we told him he had to leave and give us our blanket, he said "what do you want me to do, just go out there naked?" Um, yes, asshat.

We finally told him to just leave with the blanket and he did. And then we had to listen to him pounding on the apartment door below us for the next hour because he was apparently locked out.

  • Perfect timing...Destination Truth premiers tonight!  I love that show :-D

This one isn't paranormal at all, but still creepy.  So in the neighborhood I grew up in, we had several 'regular' ice cream trucks.  Well there was this one old dude in a blue truck that used to literally follow me home as I walked home from school.  If I was a little late, he'd kind of park a few houses down from ours.  It always creeped me out and I kept telling my mom I thought he was some sort of serial killer and I wanted to call the cops on him, but she didn't believe me that he followed me.  One day, he just stopped coming to our neighborhood.  A few years later, I was researching old newspaper articles for a class and found out why he stopped coming.  Yeah, he got arrested for kidnapping and molesting a girl about my age the year before and they finally had the evidence to arrest him.

And now for a sort of paranormal one...my grandpa had this grandfather clock that was his 'baby'.  He always wound it on time, polished it, etc.  Shortly after he passed away, my mom came over in the morning and my grandma thanked her for putting the reminder on the TV for her to wind the clock the night before (the first time it needed it since my grandpa died).  My mom was confused because not only did she not do it, it was an old console TV that definitely did not have the capability to do it anyways.  But my grandma insisted it came up right in the middle of the TV screen and said "Don't forget to wind the clock".
