NWR-Diva 1/2 Marathon...All Girls Race

A huge group of my friends went to this race last year and I am thinking about doing it this year. I thought I would share the information...what better way to get into wedding shape than to have a goal in mind. I am planning on going from couch potato to 5k...5k to sprint triathlon....sprint triathlon to 1/2 marathon... JOIN ME!

The Divas Half Marathon Series is the most fun and glam women's half marathon series in the nation.  Check out why...

One of my tri teammates did this race last year and said it was AMAZING!  Granted, her nickname is diva, so it wasn't surprising that she fit in pretty well.

Unfortunately(or maybe fortunately haha)  I'm doing the Poconos half Iron that weekend, but maybe I can do it in 2010.

On another note, where abouts in south Jersey are you located?  What tri were you thinking of doing?

I am a first time tri-er :) I am doing Jersey Girl in Long Branch on August 7th. My fiancee races in a tri like every weekend.  Some of the non-running spouces, as we call our club, decided we better step up to the plate.

It is 100$ which is A LOT for a tri but we figured it is all girls and with only doing one this summer we could justify it.

I am in Toms River. I started swim lessons this past week to "learn" how to swim. I can hold my own but timing breathing and strokes is not easy. I am using the same swim coach as FI...he was 1min 10sec 50 yards when he started with this swim coach in November...he is now swimming 37seconds 50 yards.

He is doing Timber Man 70.3 and most likely Pocono 70.3...I'll be the crazy one cheering for everyone on the side lines. We are also going to Lake Placid 140.6 because a lot of our friends are doing it.

You're going to do great!!! I tried to get into Jersey girl last year but it sold out, and then this year we're going on our honeymoon that week!  It seems like a very beginner friendly course, which is awesome and as long as you get some open water practice you'll be fine.   I do philly women's which is also very pricey, but the nice thing about more expensive races is that they are almost always run really well with tons of support.

I was thinking of jockstrapping Lake placid since some of my teammates are doing it but it's the same weekend as NJ state.   I was also thinking of doing the sprint at timberman.  Geez all these races are so tempting but yet so damn expensive, I've got a wedding to pay for!

Hi!  I would love to hear more about training for tris.  I need to train for something to get motivated (haven't run in a long time due to a hip injury, but PT restarts next week so hopefully I'll be back in the swing soon).

I would love to do a tri but am scared to death... what is a good beginner's race?  Has registration closed for all of them?

Are either of you doing the Asbury Park Half or NJ Half/Full?

Glaspo...where in NJ are you located? There are a ton of local running clubs that are fun to train with.  There are also some local tri clubs. I am with Ocean Running Club and FI is with Jersey Shore Tri Club & Ocean Running Club.  Almost all our local friends are triathletes. We moved to Toms River just over a year ago and met all our friends through FI training and racing.  I am looking into training plans for sprint tri's right now but I figured starting with swimming lessons was my best bet...

@ Kristen8040- Where in NJ are you located? Who do you race for when you say Team Mates?  I hope this is the kick off to a healthy and competative marriage...He did Providence 70.3 last year 5hr 11mins...He did Bassman 70.3 in October in 4hr. 48 mins. I am just hoping that I don't get a DNF :)

You will not DNF!  You will be great!  I am not a swimmer, that's the part that scares me the most.  I live in Morris County and we have a lot of great paved trails to run on.  My mom and running buddy live near you in Ocean County and we run in Allaire and around the Manasquan reservoir (my mom doesn't run - lol).

My gym has a pool and I'm so tempted to try the swimming lessons.  It's supposed to be a good alternative for my hip too.  You've got me motivated.  I'm going to check it out.

Your FI must be excited about Lake Placid - I've heard great things!

    I'm on Team Triumph - http://www.teamtriumphsnj.com/index.html

We're based out of Camden, Burlington, and Glouster Counties.  FI actually told me a few weeks ago that he wants to do a tri, but he's worried about open water swims since he's had a few shoulder surgeries.  I found an outdoor pool swim tri for him in Pascack Valley, and it's towards the end of August, so I'm thinking it might be a good match for him!
Some of the best training plans I've found are on beginnertriathlete.com.

Giaspo - I did this tri two years ago.  http://www.greenbrookracing.com/Revolution.html
At the time it was all women but I think it's co-ed now.  It was a good race, but hard bike course! If your looking for a tri let me know an area and I can try and help out.  Swim lessons will definitely help!  The best thing to do is find a race and just sign up so you can't get back out.
