September 2012 Weddings

Just need to let a little 3 second vent out.

So, we're getting married on Friday and in the past week, our bank account is starting to freak me out a bit...  I'm the one who does the budgeting and the finances.

In the past week, I paid off all our credit cards (I usually do) but I somehow then put a charge to the florist and rentals on the debit card not the credit card.  My fiance then decided that he wanted to have cash for the wedding (I had planned on putting most things on the card and paying it off when we get back) so he pulled out several hundred dollars...

We also did some major car repairs amounting  to 800 bucks (debit card was used).

He also decided to buy a bunch of new clothes on the debit card, not the credit card (again, see above).

I wasn't stressed when I checked my balance, but I just looked at the whole account and realized that our landlord hasn't cashed our rent check yet...

AND I realized that we haven't pulled out the cash for the church and tips...

I get paid Wednesday and we have a few checks to deposit, but I very rarely cut it as close as I am currently cutting it...

I know this is probably just paranoia but I am really hoping we don't suddenly have ANOTHER huge cash expense.  In October, this will be a totally non-issue because my fiance goes back to work (he works internationally and works for 3-4 months then is home for 3-4 month).

  • Omg I feel the same way ..money stress.my wedding is 14 days away and we have so many things to pay .Love planning my wedding however money can get between wedding happiness!! Good luck w everything
  • I definitely feel your pain. I finished paying off things (we have no combines accounts yet but plan to) and I have $135 to pay off our officiant, buy flowers, ribbon, pay bills and some other stuff. Sometimes, as much as I hate it, things have to go until the next month. We were lucky enough to get a check form my aunt as a wedding gift and we can't even enjoy it, we are using it to pay expenses. It's hard but I just keep thinking that once Saturday comes it'll all be done and those expenes will be gone and that helps me get through.

Defintely hoping it works out for you guys!!!!

Yeah, doing a bit of...calculated banking at the moment. I get paid Friday, and all will be fine (and really, is fine, as long as I don't forget and put *everything* on the debit card- i.e. the hair color, the nail appointment, the waxing...looking good is expensive, man). Fortunately, for the time being, our accounts are separate, so the only one who can muddle my system is me. Not that I would put it past myself. ;)

    Edited to include:
Fortunately I realized that I'd paid so far ahead on my student loans, no payments are due on one til next May and the other until February 2014. 0_o So I decided to take September (only) off just to increase liquidity after this ridiculous outlay...

  • I feel your pain! The money stress is getting to me WAY more than the wedding stress!! Good luck with everything. I'm sure you'll be fine, but I know that you can go crazy thinking about it.

  • I am right there with you. My fiance is the at home parent, and I have been off work since June because of a career change, and a hysterectomy right after. I was just cleared last week to go back to work. So we are at the VERRY end of our nest egg. I was actually just calculating our budget again. I reajust every week to account for unexpected bills, or payments. I am starting work next monday, so I will be fine after that, and we can start building our nest egg back up.

  • Thanks for letting me let that out and the emotional support guys.

We'll be fine and I know that, it's just the OHMYGOD moment we had today.

I decided to look on the bright side- everything's been paid for in cash, so we won't have a ccard bill to pay at the end of the month.

  • I think one of the largest, if not THE largest, stress when planning a wedding for most people is finances. We're in the final stretch now, so just remember this is almost over!
  • Even though I know we HAVE the money, I have little mini anxiety attacks whenever a large(er) payment is made, It's like OHMYGOSH, bye bye hard earned money! But high five to paying with actual money and not charging wedding expenses!
