Wedding Coordinator Semi-Vent

in June 2012 Weddings
Met with a wedding coordinator team yesterday, for DOC. Our budget doesn't allow for it at all... but I'm really thinking of a 2nd job for wedding related items, including this expense. They are as much as the pohotog which is already about 20% of the budget.... We may need to ask for help from Parents/Grandparents for this one. Almost everything else is already picked/bought, other than the little details, like the cake topper...

So, we really want the DOC team, but the funding is the really hard part right now.... They do have a payment plan option, with 50% down....

    I personally don't see the need for a DOC. I think if you really want one then get a second job like mentioned. I hate asking parents for money so I never do. They technically don't have to pay for anything. You should only take help if they offer it

    I cant imagine NOT having a DOC. But I think it depends on your venue. We are getting married at my parents home (everything outside, tented reception) so if we didnt have one, my parents would be coordinating and I do NOT want that!! I think its worth the money. We found a local lady who does and its going to be SUPER cheap. I am so relieved.

    This exactly! We are getting married at my parent's house, too. Really does depends on the venue...

    Ok yeah I could definitely see having one then haha. Our church is great with weddings and we got a huge packet! We can literally plan the whole ceremony from that packet. It has everything from music to your choice of wording! There's a banquet manager we're working with at our reception but he's not a coordinator. We have to go to the venue the morning of and set up our stuff but I actually like that because I'm crazy detail oriented like that and would be worrying it wouldn't be done the way I want it and I wouldn't get to change it hahaha

    Yeah- my church is very open to doing what the bride/groom wants to do for the ceremony (within reason of course).. which is nice, but at the same time I could really use some direction!!

    Thanks Zims. I have the music figured out. Our reading will revolve around our verse that FI and I select. I am hoping my pastor has some sort of script he can give me to tweek. We will see in Feb!!

    That's cool! We are doing our test in January while our pastor is gone (he visits his family in Canada every Jan) and then when he gets back we will start our counseling. Is it weird that I am excited!?!? haha!!

    Haha we're doing a marriage prep weekend instead. As students going to school 3 hours away from where our wedding is it's easier to pick one weekend than 6 to do counseling with a sponsor couple

    </div><div>I have one mostly for my own piece of mind. Our venue has a coordinator but there is another wedding that day, so her time will be split. Plus I want someone who is working for me, rather than for a venue so will have my interests first. </div>

    I have a really good friend that is doing that for me. As a thank you I am just going to get her a really nice gift. I cannot imagine not having someone helping me making sure everything gets taken care of when it is suppose too.

    I agree with the above. You should shop around. My DOC is charing us 100 for the day and she is amazing.

    what about finding another doc who is cheaper? they should not be even close to the same as your photog. It is NOT a necessity to spend that much on even though it is a nice thought, not to have to co-ordinate.

    You ladies are right, I should definately do some more shopping around. I'm hoping I can find someone on my side of the river, I'd hate a bridge lift to cause a delay in the DOC arrival... that's some very unnecessary strees.
