The next time you want to murder and dismember someone, come on over to Sweden

http://www.thelocal.se/30906/20101216/

CN: Guy is convicted of murdering a couple in 2007 and dismembering them to cover up the crime.  Well, murder for one, manslaughter for the other.  He takes out loans in the victims names and sells their car. He gets THIRTEEN years.  Thirt.een.  I cannot believe it.

The couple were elderly as well.

  • That's everywhere.  We were watching a show the other night and this guy broke into a business, brutally murdered his co-worker who was working that night, stole a bunch of money, and only got about 15 years in prison.  I think that's one messed up thing in the U.S.  Some states have the death penalty, some get 10 years in prison.  There is NO consistency.

  • have you ever read the milennium series?  (girl with dragon tattoo, girl who played with fire, girl who kicked the hornets nest)?

I was wondering how much of all that was true, about the SAPO and what-not.  admittedly I thought of you when I read those books (not quite finished the third one)

  • I don't even want to read that article. I don't feel like being sad or angry today.
  • I'm wth Dani; that's an everywhere thing - there is next to no consistency in sentencing a lot of the time.

  • Wow I am sure he will be stable enough to be amongst normal people again :/

Yes, I have.  I'm not sure how that equates, tbh.  :)

Dani, I guess I just expected that a murder + dismemberment + fraud would equal something closer to life.

I know, I agree with you!  That's what I thought about the guy here in the U.S. that robbed the place AND murdered the guy.  It's crazy.

There's a certain factoring in for the sentence when murder is premeditated, right?  I guess I can see how a lawyer could make a case that a robbery/murder wasn't, but the second murder in this case clearly was premeditated.   To me, it's pretty horrifying.  There should be a standard for stuff like that.  They also don't do jury trials here, so it's professional judges. *sigh:*
  • It definitely happens everywhere, some areas or parts of the world are just worse than others. The world is just sick, that is all there is to it.
