Split candy order?

I'm looking to buy candy for a candy bar as our favors.  I don't know that I can justify buying the really bulk amounts (30 pounds) of Fruit Tootsie Rolls for example.  Its $79.50 for 30 pounds, $2.65/pound.  Would anyone want to split large bulk orders of popular candies in/around the Raleigh area?

Does anyone know how much candy we should have per person?  Here comes the reality though. We are inviting 265 people... less than two months away! :)

I was told that you should plan on 1/4 of a pound of candy per person, but depending on your guests, maybe even 1/2 pound per person. Expecting ~ 200 of your 265 guests to show, and if you were having say 10 types of candy, then you would need about  5 pounds of each type at least, maybe even about 10 pounds of each type.
    Hope that helps!

If my wedding was closer, I def would split it with you because I was thinking the same thing when looking for candy online as well.

I think if I were to order it now it would be stale by the time September rolled around.

    FutureMrsFraiser,

It might be stale by Sept, but it depends on the type of candy. I have already bought most of my candy (for July wedding) - m&ms, chocolate, fruit licorice sticks, mike & ikes, lolly pops. Things like chocolate you can freeze. I also have frozen my licorice sticks. We'll see what happens. The mike & ikes I have stuck in airtight containers out of their box. And lolly pops should be fine as they ar. So you can probably buy some candy ahead of time - but things like tootsie rolls might not be a go. And it depends on the type of freezer space you have. ;)

My wedding is no where near as big, but I haven't ordered any candy online yet. My advice is to pop into places like Big Lots once in awhile & look at their candy. Sometimes you can find name brand things perfect for your wedding (like my green m&ms). I've also found surprise candy at the Dollar Tree where I got those large swirly lolly pops in green & white for $1 a piece. We're just using them for decoration at the candy bar (not enough for everyone) and will probably give em to the little kids. Sometimes you find the perfect candy in surprising places.

Brandy - FYI, the swirly lollipops sound AMAZING - and I understand they're just for decoration. But BE PREPARED - my SIL did a candy buffet when her and my brother got married, and she had even GLUED some of these as part of her decoration, and people DESTROYED her setup. If candy was available, they wanted it, regardless of whether it was intended as decoration or not.

What colors are you guys using? I have a TON of orange candy that I froze after my wedding. I was going to use it this year for Halloween (It's all hard candy; you'd have to add the chocolate if you wanted), but I'd love to give it away if someone can use it. PM me if you want it!

the dollar store is a great place to look.  I bought pixie sticks there the other day, both the small ones in the bag (there are about 60 per bag) and then the larger ones as deoration (but they can take them too) and large swirled lollypops.

Brandy, I never even thought about freezing it! Good Idea!

Bec, sent you a PM... my colors are orange and pink, so I'm trying to keep most of our candy within those colors as well.

Since we are talking about Candy Buffets, anyone have any glass jars left over from their candy buffet that they would like to get rid of? Send me an email, hgeorge@unch.unc.edu :o)

I looked at buying some from the trash to treasure board, but after adding in shipping it would have been cheaper to buy them new.

look at Marshalls, Tuesday morning, etc. and think outside of a normal container.  I already had some clear, glass serving bowls that were different looking than normal serving bowls and we are using those and my triffel bowl that I already owned.  You would be surprised at what you already have that you can use!!!

I found a footed apothecary jar at Target for $14 and got that. I have a Trifle bowl at home too that we are going to use. My FMIL found another footed apothecary jar that's a different shape as the one I found at a thrift store for $9.

I checked TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Ross this past weekend, because they always tend to have that random stuff you are looking for, but they didn't have anything, I'll keep looking.

    What is tuesday morning?

Here are some online jars/glassware, if you get in a bind and can't find any in person.
    They're not that cheap though...

Check Michael's, too. They have some nice glass vases & large candle holders that could probably be used for a candy buffet. And if you buy them one at a time using their sales coupon, you'll get them 40-60% off.

I found almost all of my jars at Home Goods. I will probably list them for sale after the wedding. They had great prices there.

I am doing chocolate brown and turquoise blue for my colors. The candy I got so far: Tootsie Rolls, Rice Krispie Treats, Almond Joys, M&M's snack size bags, Hershey's Bliss Chocolates wrapped in blue and brown, Blue/white & brown/white swirled old fashioned candy sticks, rock candy sticks, york peppermint patties, blue/brown chocolate covered sunflower seeds and blue lollipops. My sister is bringing me salt water taffy in blue and brown from the Jersey shore. That's my favorite part.

i'm not sure if anyone will agree but the goodwill is a good place to find vases. I've seen such unique vases there.. that's where i'm planning on getting mine from.
