wedding bands

Just a question about wedding bands. Do you get the bands put together before you get married? Some people tell me yes so that when the groom puts it on your hand its both of them together with the wedding band on the inside. Other people tell me you wear you engagement ring down the isle. Which one? I'm sure that i could do either, but what is the right way?

Re: wedding bands

  • I have always heard it as you wear your E ring on your right hand, he puts the band on your left and then after for pics you put them together.  The band goes closest to your heart. It irks me when ppl have it on backwards.  I suppose if you had it soldered before that is fine, but you have to be willing to give it up for a week or 2

  • You can do it either way but getting them soldered eventually is a good idea.  I know women like to be able to wear their rings separately and whatnot but wearing 2 rings together enough will wear your gold (or whatever metal) out eventually.  I used to work in a jewelry store and saw some wedding rings completely destroyed from never getting them soldered...just an fyi.

I don't think there is no right way, I think it just depends on your preference.  Some people want the freedom to wear them seperately because it allows them flexibility of wearing one or both rings.  I plan on getting my rings soldered, and I had heard that it is good to get them soldered...Can't remember the reason right now Embarassed maybe because of what future-mrs said.

That is what I did, as well.

To get them soldered or not is really a matter of personal preference, and it probably also depends on the metal that your rings are made of.  PP, does platinum do the same thing as gold as far as wearing away like that?

I didn't get mine soldered for a couple reasons.  I like to wear my band only sometimes.  My engagement ring is rather large, and I don't like to draw attention to myself when I'm traveling, so if we were to leave the country or travel to somewhere less safe, I would probably leave my e-ring at home.  Also, if your rings are tight, it's even harder to get them on if they are soldered together.  My weight fluctuates and my hands swell after I work out, plus I'll probably retain water when I'm pregnant.  I'd rather be able to still wear at least one of my rings.
  • Also if you have an heirloom ring or think you may want to pass yours on at some point, I wouldn't solder them. My ring is my grandmother's, and Ialso like the freedom of choosing to wear one or both, so I won't solder mine.

  • I wore my engagement ring and just had him put the wedding band on top of it. Then, after the ceremony I switched it. I am definitely not having them soldered together. I hate when people get their rings solered. Plus, I like the option of wearing just the band sometimes.

Why do you hate it? It's someone elses ring, not yours. who cares

  • im getting mine put together after the wedding. my bands are curved to fit my ring so they dont look right without my e ring. they are smaller anyway and just really add to my e ring! i will wear the e ring for pictures before the wedding and then im having someone take him my ering before the ceremony. i have 2 wedding bands so were going to attempt to put all 3 on at once...we may have to practice this!
