Oh, I really like the top one. BGG, where is your venue? Have you decided on any other details yet, like decor or theme? Sometimes fitting the dress to the aesthetic of the overall wedding can really help with a dress choice.

I love them both! I would choose the top one if it was flattering on my frame.

Agree on both counts.  Although you could also plan your decor around the dress.  Also, what does your fiancee's dress look like?  if you aren't keeping them a surprise, it might make sense for them to be somewhat complimentary.

Venue: Mama Maria's  - classic - These are photos of the room. Guests are being invited to an engagement party, but we are surprising them with a wedding that night.

Fiancee's dress - We are such different people and our coloring is so different, that we aren't sure whether we should try to sort of match, or just play up the difference.

I normally hate pickups, but I really love #1!!!  It's so glamorous and chic.  I also like #2 for the Grace Kelly attitude it gives.  But I think #2 may feel too promish depending on how you accessorize it.  If you want to do matchy matchy, #2 coordinates with your FI's dress very well.

    Have you tried them on?

Yeah i think when it comes down to it, it's your wedding so who cares if you match :)  I agree with fff tho, number two would go better since they both have clean lines.

I am going to stick with the number 1 reco! it would look so stunning in photos of you in north square with all of that delightful cobblestone and old buildings. :-) GL!

I don't think you have to match in style at all, but I would suggest matching or complementing in color.  At least, I've seen photos with an ivory dress bride and a white dress bride together, and I found the color mismatch distracting. The blush pink though might be different enough that it isn't distracting or clashy though.  I like the second dress a lot.

    good luck!

arg, I see you said both in ivory, so never mind about the pink comment.  Anyway, do what you like, if you think you both really look good in different colors, don't let me discourage you obviously!  :p

Killian - thank you.  It is tough because she looks best in bright white and I look best in ivory.  So the photographer recommended playing up totally different dresses so people wouldn't think - 'oh, the colors aren't the same', but instead, 'totally different dresses'

I originally hoped to have dresses the same color and by the same designer.  But htat plan failed miserably!

The best advice I got when wedding dress shopping was to picture yourself looking at your pictures, say, 20 years from now.  Which dress are you wearing?

Ok, here's a final thought.  #1 is a showstopper.  #2, though lovely, is traditional and expected.  I'm afraid that #1 may over-shadow your FI's dress.  But I guess proper accessorizing may prevent that from happening.

Oh, and now I'm being totally pushy and giving unsolicited advice, but if you have ivory and she has white, what if she carries an ivory bouquet and you carry a white one to pull it together?  and maybe have some common element in the bouquets, like a colored flower or ribbon wrap?

NUMBER ONE - Hands down.  The other dress is good if you want a softer "girl" look. The first dress says "woman" to me: voluptuous, sexy curves. Know what I mean?

Completely agree with above - I LOVE #1, but it may overshadow the other more plain dress

No, Spuccio.  I know who it is.  Everything will be fine, I promise.  If a surprise is spoiled on one person, I think I'm the best person to have it spoiled on.  1.) I hate surprises, 2.) I am FANTASTIC at keeping secrets, and 3.) I'm so happy for BGG it doesn't matter one bit.  =)
