Blockade Runner Hotel

Has anyone had any experiences with the Blockade Runner on Wrightsville Beach either as a guest at the hotel, attending a wedding or having a wedding there? Thanks

    I have been to the Blockade runner twice and really like it. It's an older hotel but they have relatively new renovations. It has a nice airy feel.  We thought about getting married there but decided to stay local. I like that they have the option of getting married on their lawn that is on the ocean.

    I also like that you can get a non ocean view room (less expensive) and still have a great view of the sound and sunsets. When we have been we have done one of their romance packages that includes champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a nice dinner at their restuarant. For some reason when we booked it was less expensive to do the package then just a room would have been.

    Anytime we have been they have had great customer service. They also have a free shuttle to anywhere on the island. I hope that helps!

    I went to a wedding there about 3 summers ago, but did not stay there as we had friends in town we stayed with for free :)  The wedding was GORGEOUS -- on the lawn overlooking the water.  There was a cocktail hour on the patio/in a smaller room, and then the reception was in another room.  The bride and groom left the reception on a boat so they did their exit with sparklers on a dock as they went to the boat. Anyway, it was a great wedding.  I never heard any complaints from the bride about things that went wrong, or complaints from the people who stayed there.

     My FI and his family have stayed at the Blockade Runner and it was really nice :) Beautiful renovations!

    My roommate got married at the Oceanic and it was also beautifully done. There is an option there to get married on the pier if you don't want to get married on the sand.

    Shell Island resort is another popular place on Wrightsville beach. I've seen weddings there while walking on the beach and their website has beautiful pictures :)

    I also looked into Shell Island and they offer packages that include the space, food, cake, and flowers. I'm not sure if they let you bring in other vendors if you prefer. I haven't been to Shell Island in a long time but I'm going in June so if you are still looking at that point I can let you know how it is. Wrightsville is a nice beach, but it can get more crowded than others.

    I went to UNCW so I spent a lot of time at Wrightsville. It's nice because you can be at the beach but also have all the restuarants and going out spots that Wilmington offers. Downtown Wilmington is also beautiful and has lots of nice restuarants on the river.
