[QUOTE]Rach, on my cousin's it was "Before the Miss becomes a Mrs., let's shower her with love and good wishes!"  I liked it.

Perhaps I'm belaboring the point here, but if I'm someone who doesn't know what a wishing well is, or what it's for, this doesn't let me know that I should bring a small gift to put in a receptacle of some sort.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Wishing Well--is it OK? : Yeah, I'm sure NJ Cindy would have agreed with you on that one... :/

I almost went back to that post and added an "except for Cindy" disclaimer, but then I had to go to a meeting.

  • Lol Steph, as soon as I saw your post I thought, maybe it's a long island thing... I had never heard of one, either until I threw ny friend's shower. A guest brought something for a wishing well.(a serving spoon or something) I was, like, a what? I just awkwardly motioned towards the gift table and smiled dumbly. When I came here, I saw that it was used in context of bringing cash to the wedding and throwing it into a wishing well. It's like Stag and Doe. In some places it means fundraiser, in other places it's just a Bach and bachelorette party. OP, I say go for it, if you want one and people expect there to be one.

[QUOTE]Cindy probably had an actual wishing well, and guests were required to throw in gold doubloons.

Duh Eagles, that's how they do it "in her circle."  She would've eloped if there weren't gold dubloons.  And all of this has nothing to do with New Jersey.  Even though she lives there.  Jeez, why does everyone always bring up New Jersey when she posts these things?!?!?

[QUOTE]Yaga, it would have to be under a new SN since that wicked witch is dead.

Dang, I'm bummed I missed that particular implosion.  That's what I get for being social and having houseguests.  Stupid friends visiting and cutting into my Knotting.  :-P

    ETA: Thanks for the link!

  • I just read that part of the link.  I missed a banning!!!

This is what happens when work gets in the way of the knot and "hunger games".

    :)
  • I'm from the northeast, and every shower I've ever been to (45 years worth) has had a wishing well. Around here it's for small things...can opener, whisk, etc. I've NEVER seen one for money. It must be a regional thing.
