NWR: Halloween Costumes

For those of you dressing up this year, what are you going as?  Any ideas for what someone else could go as?

DH and I were going to go as cheesy bride and groom (think 80s), but then he somehow became creepy Ron Burgundy/70s guy and I'm out of a costume.  I can't figure out what to go as.  I don't need to coordinate with him.

I was thinking about buying a bunch of rubber meat dog toys and going as Lady Gaga, but I have a feeling someone else at the party I'm going to will do the same thing and better.

Lady gaga is the number 1 costume this year. So I would steer from that.

Oh and I don't have any suggestions, sorry. I am trying to figure it out for myself.

I actually thought Snookie would be #1, but I can see how Gaga would be too.  I don't think I would really want to be either as I can't imagine those would be very comfortable.

Snookie is number 2.  lol And the situation, followed by Pauly D. I was listening to Chio this morning and they were talking about this.

That's funny.  Preston & Steve said Snookie was #1.  Either way, I'm sure there will be a lot of all of them this year.

I wasn't going out since FI works 24 hrs Friday night, 8am Friday to 8 am Sat (means he sleeps all day Saturday and early to bed Saturday night).

But now that he worked last weekend instead... we have 1 week to make plans, get custumes and go out!

Yea I'd stear clear from gaga and snookie!  I always have the cowgirl back up since I have the hat, boots, gun holsters...

We could just go out in true form - rednecks haha

DH and I just went to a halloween party on Saturday. I was Neytiri from Avatar, it turned out really cute and DH was Peter Griffin from Family Guy. One of our friends was Flo, the Progressive Insurance Company girl and that was a cute and easy costume too. Also one couple was a plug and socket, but I saw that a lot last year. My sister and her boyfriend were Kelly and Zack from Saved by the Bell, but that was perfect for them because she has long dark hair and he has blonde hair.
Besides that it was all the typical costumes- Snookie, football players, babies, flappers, etc.. Hope that helps. Good luck!

FI and I are being Mario and Princess Peach. Super cartoony but should be fun.

If your H is being Ron Burgundy, why don't you go as Veronica Corningstone? That one wouldn't be that hard to put together.

My roomate did this in college.  She basically got lingerie from walmart, booty shorts, fishnets, big flashy make up then teased, krimped her hair with feathers stuck in it.

My dog has a costume.  She's a bumble bee (it was $5 at Target, and she doesn't mind it because it fits her like her winter coat does, which she is used to).  DH took a picture with his phone; when I can get it, I will post it.

For me?  No idea.  I don't think we are going to go out this year.  There is just too much going on here that we have to/need to take care of, and going out for Halloween (and spending money on a costume) just doesn't work this year.  Not to mention that for us, we are discussing and trying to decide if we want to do participate in Halloween period as a family- we both have some conflicting feelings on how it relates to our faith.

Plus, being a size 18 and a plus size bride (and AHEM, those 18s are BIG ON ME!!  When I started this all, I was in size 22s...sorry, wrong thread I know, but I had to brag for a moment!), finding plus size costumes that are not dowdy and don't cost an arm and a leg is really, really hard.  I am all for putting my own costume together (we never had store bought costumes growing up, and we always had the best costumes because of it), but finding cool articles of clothing to make a costume is also harder as a plus size bride.

I like Hilarys roller girl idea.

DH and I are going as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley (the early years - think leather jacket and jeans vs sparkly jumpsuit). This is surprisingly my first year dressing as Marilyn even though I have always loved her. Pretty easy costume too... blonde wig and white dress, beauty mark and red lips. DH got some awesome gold sunglasses with built-in sideburns.

Cara - As far as suggestions for you, I am loving the 70s era suggestions... veronica corningstone or roller girl!

Aww I love some of the costumes! Speaking of Anchorman - I'm being a "dirty pirate hooker" as my FI likes to say - minus the dirty part if you ask me. It's really a pirate that is more on the flirtatious side.

I like Hil's idea of the Roller girl too.

and Madam A - I will need pics, because that is too friggin cute! (I'm a fan of that era and so naturally Marilyn and Elvis)

Nicole - Yea... unfortunately, this costume decison came after I lowlighted my hair. It is nowhere near blonde enough anymore to pass for Marilyn. DH could have punched me standing in the Halloween store with the wig in hand. He was like "Your hair was blonde a few weeks ago and you spent $100 to make it darker and then another $20 on a blonde wig" OOOOOPS!

I went as a New Jersey housewife last year.  I had a hot pink velour tracksuit that I got at Ross, wore fake Uggs, carried a giant handbag (I had a Louis Vitton knockoff), teased my hair, put on tons of make up and got giant sunglasses.  Oh, and I went to Claire's and got crazy bling.

It was a very comfortable Halloween costume!  And, it went over really well!  The only thing I was missing was a tiny dog to carry around...

MA- that's hilarious. Unfortunately FI gets very uncreative for his costume ideas. I had to convince him to pick something early (which he thankfully did) although he's not going as ron burgandy :(

    Ev - Love it!

Is anyone going to Reeds for the Halloween party on Saturday? Just wondering since my dirty pirate hooker self and FI (dressed as Claudio from Coheed and Cambria - or a punk rocker to those that don't know who C&C are) will be partying it up and would love to add to our group!

Last year me and the FI were Jon and Kate. I had a cheap wig from the year before (when we were Dog the Bounty Hunter and Beth) and I cut it. I went to Joyce- Leslie and got a puffy jacket like she used to wear before she got all crazy and I returned it after Halloween. Fi just got an "Ed Hardy" shirt at Walmart. Then we went the dollar store and got 8 babies and tied them all together and just carried/ drug them around all night. They got eaten by my friends dog. Ha.

This year for the first time in as long as I can remember I bought a costume. A friend works for toy company so we got them real cheap. We are both going to be Cookie monster and his BM and his gf are going to be Elmo. Why not right?

A friend of mine throws a party every year and get annoyed because I show up in the same costume most of the time...I have a great Minnie Mouse costume that I wear pretty frequently.  So this year she decided that the Halloween party would be themed (don't get me started) and that everyone had to come as a "mythical creature".  This is also a stab at getting my red-headed Irish husband to finally come wearing a leprechaun hat.

Annoyed at having to find an alternative costume, I was struck with a brilliant idea last week that meets the criteria of the stupid themed party, is cheap, and is an homage to my Garden State origins.  I will be donning a pair of horns, a tail, a bowtie, a pitchfork, and a t-shirt from CafePress that reads "New Jersey: We pump our fists, not our gas."

Yes ladies, I will be dressed as the Jersey Devil this Halloween.  And Minnie Muse for the kids' dress-u day at school on Friday. :P

I loved reading this! Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. This year, my fiance is going as a knight, I'm going to be a princess, and our almost-one-year-old son will be a dragon. Can't wait!
