Please help me choose my dress! Only 6 months away!

Our wedding is August 4th and I have been struggling to find a dress appropriate for the setting.  We are paying for half of the wedding ourselves so i am leaning to the cheaper one. I need to order a dress ASAP so I would appreciate your opinions!!

The ceremony will be at 5:30pm, outside (under a tent) at a country club in Indiana. The reception will be inside of the clubhouse.  My color is purple with some damask and crystal accents.

I love the jewels and crossover of the Sophia Tolli, but am afraid it is too much for daylight wedding, also the ruffles seem to start right at the middle of my butt that looks weird.  (~$1550)  We were sneaking this picture so the angle is not so great ;)

The Mori Lee is chiffon so the material seems more fitting for the time of day and being outside.  I like the silhouette of that the ruffles start completely below my butt.  Negatives are the flowers, sometimes I notice them and they aren't my fav, but sometimes I don't even notice. Positive -half the price! (~$840)

THANKS!!! Can't wait for your help!

I'd go with A but its your wedding. If your super conflicted about it, go back and try both on again. If you didn't have that instant love then keep looking. My dress is a sottero and midgley, they told me it would take 6-8 months and it came in after 5 weeks.
  • I think the first one does start the ruffles oddly on your butt as you said.

The second one looks much better on you and I think is less dramatic for an afternoon wedding as you had said

and the second one has just enough ruffles, the first one is kind of overboard

  • I love the first one. I'm a huge Sophia Tolli fan, so I may be biased :)

  • The Sophia Tolli is stunning. The Mori Lee doesn't compare IMO.

  • I love Mori Lee but Sophia Tolli wins hands down in this case.

  • I personally like the second gown.
  • I'm firmly in the camp of "wear the dress you love." For an evening wedding, I don't think the first dress is too much. Maybe if you were getting married at 10:30 in the morning, but certainly not 5:30 at night.

I think the first dress has the wow factor. That being said, you look great in the second dress, too, so you can't go wrong either way. But, like PP said, if you don't absolutely love either of them, look around again. They said my dress would take 4 months to come in - it was in 4 weeks later. So you may still be okay time-wise, especially if it won't need a ton of alterations.
  • I like the second one only because that is more my style.

I would not take the time or your venue into account when picking your dress.  If you love a certain dress then that should be your wedding dress.  But if you are concerned about the time and venue the first one is definitely approrpriate for a 5:30 wedding as is the second one.

Which one do you love the most?

  • Maybe you should check out a few more stores? It doesn't seem like any of these blow you away. Keep looking- you have time and its worth finding one that you like both the style AND the price!
