To keep or to not keep this shoe

I have an ideal shoe, but what I like can run quite high in price. I don't really like a traditional wedding shoe...but I found these (I would wear them again), best price...most comfortable heels I ever placed my foot in..only issue I feel that I have is that it's 5 and 1/4 in. heel...my fiance is 6' and I'm 5'5'', 5'6'' on a good day ;) I'm not sure if I want to be almost 5'10''? I
guess I don't want my dress to come up off the ground at all which I'm not sure if it would...I felt obligated to make this purchase b/c it was the last pair in my size and it was only $47...I thought about cutting the heel down but I'm always thinking the worst with them not being able to do it, then I thought I'd only wear the shoes for the wedding and a different pair like flats that look just like it for the reception. I'm stuck :/
maybe I'm thinking too much but I know you ladies know what it's like to have a trillion things on your mind with planning..I need to know if I should keep the shoe or keep looking? or wait til my dress comes in and try it on with it to see if the dress comes off the floor at all? or keep the shoes anyway and look for another pair b/c they are just that amazing for the price? haha oh goodness sorry for the novel...

but these are the shoes

this is the link to my dress, I chose the link b/c it looks better on a bride than a mannequin http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/alfred-angelo-belles-dress

so did I make a mistake?

Re: To keep or to not keep this shoe

  • The dress is gorgeous and so are the shoes, but keep in mind that no one will really even see them under the dress.  My FI is only 5'8" on a good day and I'm almost 5'7".  Some days, for no reason we can fathom, we both feel like I'm taller, but we check in the mirror and he's still got that extra inch, but all of my heels are 3-6" so I either have to wear flats a lot or just accept the height difference.

I opted for flats for my entire wedding from ceremony through the post-reception party because I don't want to be taller than him in the pictures and I want to be comfortable the entire evening (not to mention the flight of stairs I have to make my entrance on)  You won't be taller than your FI in your shoes, but it will add a lot of height.  You just have to decide if you want that or not.  You could track down a shorter, plain pair of peep toes and strass them yourself if you really want that look, but I wouldn't cut the heel because they have a platform and it will be uneven.  I would keep them for future use, though.  You could wear them each year on your anniversary :)

  • I love them, and I think they suit the dress.  I added 5" to my height for the wedding, but I wear those type of heels regularly, so it suited me.

One thing to consider, you can't wear flats for the reception, so if you want a comfy shoe to change into, consider platform wedge flipflops that are close to the height of those so your dress doesn't drag and you trip over it.

I think you should wait until you have the dress and see how you feel.

  • I'm 5'10" and my fiance is also 5'10" my shoes are 4.5" so I'll be almost 6'3".. not to mention the height added from the veil... but those are the shoes that I fell in love with and had to have them... not really worried about the height

  • I love the shoes. They are totally my style. I am jealous because I don't have the option to wear 5" heels! My fiance is 5'8 ish and i'm 5'6. I don't like small heels, so I couldn't go that route. Even if you decided they were too tall for the wedding day, they are $47 and fabulous. Wear them again other times:)

  • They're gorgeous shoes and I definitely wouldn't worry about the height! Wait till you have your dress, try them on and see how you feel. Then you can make your final decision. Either way, you got a fabulous pair of shoes at a fabulous price :)
